I went to a school today and was told by the recruiter there that Schneider starts off at around a $1100 per week for OTR work and it is not a pay per mile scale like I thought it was. Is this guy selling me a bridge or is this an accurate salary? I live in MA if that matters... and this sounds way too good to actually be true. Can anyone confirm or deny that this pay is what a new driver should expect to receive in my area?
$1100 to start with Schneider?

$1100 might be gross. Which is not bad for first year. For many it is not bad for all their years!
Talk with Schneider drivers to get the real deal info. Recruiters promise the world. Then dispatch sends you to heck and back. Three times a day...

You will be lucky if you see 600 weekly. That number might be for those dedicated accounts that you have to unload the whole trailer by hand and back into places big trucks shouldn't be backing into.

30 cents a mile for new driver you need 3600 miles a week to get $1100, count on 2200-2500 miles

Averaging ~515 miles per day, 7 days a week, is not easy to do.
Especially if you have some live loads/unloads.
Or if freight is slow in your area.
Or if you want to do laundry or get a shower that day.
Or... or... or. -
I do intermodal in Chicago. $1000 gross M-F. $1400 if I work 7 days. I never, ever touch the freight.
Cue Taylor Swift's "never ever getting back together" song...
And we service large companies like Kraft and M&M both of which have decent sized areas for truck maneuvering.

Maybe $1100 is every 2 weeks.
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
So you make 200 bucks a day pulling containers around Chicago. Well good for you. I was talking about the dollar general's, dollar tree type accounts that you have to hand unload, and back in off the streets with very little maneuvering room. Just remember rookie. Trucking company's don't give out cash so if they are saying they are giving a grand to you. You better believer you are going to be doing some physical labor and or like the Chicago guy playing in traffic all day.

Get use to the trucking company scams which tell you over the phone you will have this dedicated account and bla bla and once you get through orientation. It's all filled up, but there is that account in 10 buck 2 North Dakota that is open. You won't see home for 3 months but its a gig.
