Wow! You must be working for Gordon.....I was just asking...see, i've heard that some drivers are working 50 weeks a year with 34hr weekly r/s for $36k/yr and no benefits?!:biggrin_25513: :biggrin_25513:
.....I was NOT trying to belittle Gordon in any way, Where on Earth did you get the impression I was trying to prove a point? ... I'm just trying to find an employer that's willing to pay me at least $45K per year without expecting a 34 hour restart be considered as my day off. I'm ok driving from 28 to 45 days in a row, as long as i get at least 5 days at home afterwards; and if they only match 10 cents for every $100 and expect me to pay $500 a month for individual medical insurance, then i'd rather know now instead of having 40 employers on my resume. Anything less than $900 per week, with no benefits and high cost insurance - then they better let me idle all I want (up to 63 hrs/week), set my runs @ 24.5mph from pickup departure to delivery arrival, and 3 full days off at home or a terminal with clean showers and laundry every 21 days.
    That's all. :biggrin_25525:

LMAO, I'm in CDL school! I am 51 years old and already retired from a totally different career. I've been around long enough to know, that, some people will never be happy no matter what type of job they have or how much they are getting paid. I can also see how the trucking industry is changing and how, some folks, can't see what's happening right before their eyes. Just about every company I looked into so far are, doing fairly extensive background checks, extensive health screening, to include sleep apnea, and they are limiting how many jobs you can have in the past three to five years. They don't want the whiney, never happy anywhere job hoppers. They are raising the standards to get a better quality worker then they have in the past.Trucking is not as easy as it once was. With more regulations, roads more congested, soaring litigation and insurance rates, you need competence behind the wheel. Not saying the older generation of trucker are boobs. Its just that companies used to take anybody that could pass the test. Not so much anymore. Its a different Country now, than it was prior to 9/11 and different than is was before the economy took the big dump. Some get it, some don't. If you look around a little, you won't find much difference in any of the medium and large companies. Maybe a couple cents a mile more or less, little more, little less for insurance, 401ks, bout the same. Home time, fairly standard through out the industry for every week you are out, one day at home. A week vacation after one year. But, one thing remains the same, you are always going to have those few folks that are never happy, no matter how much money they make or how good their benefits are. Look at some of those whiney, cry baby pro athletes.

Despite everything I read I decided to give it a shot with Gordon. I filled out the application and called the recruiter. He said they can't hire me because I don't have OTR experience. I told him that I wen't to truck school and have been driving trucks for the last 9 months. He then decided to assume that because I am not an over the road driver that i dont know how to back a truck, I work in the oilfield hauling water in a 48ft trailer. You back up in between tanks, trucks, people, equipment etc. in the dark, snow, mud, rain, wind, ice, etc. So i finally said to him was " what your telling me is that if I want to work for your company, I need to work for another over the road carrier first and then quit". His response "yes" My response "never mind". Never have I heard something so ridiculous. I think that conversation was the best thing that could have happened because I shutter to think how their rational works for other business practices. Good luck Gordon, your going to need it.

That's the majority of carriers. They need otr experience. Don't ask why, it's some kind of insurance requirement

Was your recruiter Brett or Brent? I had a bad recruiter experience too. He told me since my experience can not be "verified" I have to start at 30 cents a mile. So it's my fault the previous companies I drove for are out of business? So I have to pay for it via a low wage? Just want to send a big F U! to Gordon and all the other bottom feeders of the industry. I will drive for a small company that takes a driver's word for it that he has experience and gives him a decent wage. I thought they train new drivers btw?
