Leaving for CR England in Richmond, IN. in 2 days....never driven a stick shift

    leannweaver32, thank for letting us know how your doing. a little tip on backing(for learning) watch the space(landing gear leg and under carriage support brackets) when backing, watch the space between the rear drive tire and trailer landing leg. try not to let the tractor and trailer get more then 45 degs or 2 - 2 1/5 feet from landing gear leg to tire. ask a instructor to help explain what im say in real life. this will help you keep control of the trailer swing and in front of the trailer

    another tip for you and all the newbie's. sliding tandems. most trucks have steps by the driver door, and them steeps have holes in them. next time you have to slid your tandems after you go back and unlock the pins as you get back to the truck find a rock(for the ladies, I just mark my spot w/spit) get in the truck find your mark and line it with the hole in the step right above it. two holes in step = 1 in trailer so say we want to move it 3 hole on the tandems, that's 6 in the step so from the line up hole look 6 forward or backward then move truck till that hole lines up with mark on the ground.

    Thank you....the backing has been a little bit of a challenge for me. The off set is the hardest for me. I nailed the parallel the first time and straight backing was cake but i cant get that off set without having someone direct me. I will get it tho! Thanks for the pointers :)

    The offset takes lots of practice, at least it did for me, just keep it up and you will get it!

    Lol..i really started getting it when i went solo and had no options but to back the thing in....i agree practice a.d time..it will come.

    Hi leannweaver! Hope it's going we'll for you! I'm a lady too.

    How's the backing going? I always over-shot my offsets. Literally the last day before my test, the instructor told me to just SLOW DOWN. Creep if you must, and make the necessary adjustments.

    I'll bet you do fine.

    We have a friend who started with CRE out of school. Drove a company truck for about 6 months. Only real complaint he had was his trainer was icky. So he asked to be reassigned, and it wasn't a problem.

    Thanks Njnoob! i do really well with the parallel and straight backing but need to work on my off set. for some reason i just cant seem to get it. i know i can do it but its gonna take me a little bit. other than that everything has been going well. i am home now for a little while( taking advantage of it since i found out after i got to school that i will be gone longer than i thought), have to order a new birth certificate and just waiting on that to come back. when i get it i will be ready for my road test. i have my pre trip down and my 4 point, no worries there. i wasnt able to actually drive on the road because of the bc hold up but im pretty confident i can get the shifting down too.....so ready to hit the road!!! i have heard some horror stories about the trainers......hope i dont get stuck with a dirty person, that would be horrible!!! But, i just want to get in and get it over with so i can be on my own! i was really scared when i first got there, came from doing healthcare for 15 yrs and its a big change but i have fallen in love with the trucks!!

    they start paying you the day you get your CDL. not much but its better than nothing i geuss and you are paid while doing your phase 1 and phase 2 with your trainer.... thats not a whole lot either :/
