So I recently found out what a joke USA Truck is and am now at home back to square on nwver having drove for them. Set to start with Superior LLC theforst week of June. So a great question was raised by my mother in law regarding per diem. Ill have maybe 80 bucks to get started with when I leave, I would assume since I can tolerate cold canned soup and things of that natire Ill manage tosurvive till forst pay. But what does per diem mean in our industry? Is it a daily paid allowance? I believe Superior offer a 9 cent per mile per diem. Can someone explain?
Per Diem??

Have you tried typing in "PER DIEM" in the search box? There's lots of info. already posted on the subject here at TTR.
Sublime Thanks this. -
There is no "option" you can do that will get money into your pocket or bank any sooner. Some companies allow a set amount of money to be "advanced" per week on their fuel card (perhaps a max of $25, twice per week) But be aware these fuel card advances may or may not cost you additional money (like an ATM charge). Per Diem does not get you any money any faster. Be aware that some companies can hold back first pay check up to two weeks. I hate to see any driver out on the road with less than perhaps $200 to get them across perhaps 2 weeks until first check. Good luck. BTW, avoid per diem if you have a choice, and track your days away from home (with logs), save your shower and hotel receipts and other driving job incidentals receipts for tax time.

Thanks, good information! Unfortunately for me thays all I've got to in front of me. Of course there are a few things around the house to be scrapped or put on Craig's List but that won't bump my flow up much more than 110 120 tops. I suppose pb&j for 2 weeks straight won't kill me and for sure I'd rather have clean clothes and a hot shower over good food for 2 weeks.... thanks for the info! Thanks for the good luck! Prime or Super Service.... I dunno yet.....

I am going to assume you have been on the road already or are you just out of a cdl school? I am not sure about SuperService but with Prime if you have your CDL Permit or if you get it while at Prime, then Prime will loan up to $200 a week until you come in to test for your CDL. If you have a CDL but no experience and need to go out with a trainer then Prime will you you $600 a week or .12 cents a mile which ever is greater on the week. Meals are provided while in orientation at Prime, the meal are nothing to write home about but they will keep you from starving.

you can also get a lot of canned chicken as well. Go to a dollar store and you can get a can of chicken/turkey/ham for about $1.25 or so. Add in some crackers, make a quick meal. You can also get some veggies in single serving sizes as well for next to nothing also.
More options than just pb&j's.T-Train-Swain Thanks this. -
walmart is your friend.
as for showers and what not and receipts. you can only claim perdiem or your meals. you can't claim both. since perdiem gives you more money there's no sense in saving your receipts. you get an allowance PER NIGHT away from home for tax time. perdiem is a tax writeoff that pays better then your meals per day.
if the company gives perdiem. you basically get screwed for that tax writeoff. but the company comes out smelling out like roses.T-Train-Swain Thanks this. -
Graduated In March. I have never been on the road. USA Truck lainted a prety picture but It was all hog wash so I turned around and came back to the drawing board. Like you said, just enough to keep from starving is enough for me. Prine really soubds like a good place and I see more of their trucks around here than any others which should be a sign of reliable hometime sibce they're constantly around. Thanks for your input!
