Due to my back problem I have been sitting home for 3 months and next month will make it 4. Before because of my back I couldn't bend down for more than 20-30 seconds or I will have a really hard time getting back up. I couldnt carry heavy equipments, and also there was a time period I couldnt drive and after a rest or break, 4-5 hours driving later I would began to feel the pain again. Before I was looking for company to go with but my wife told me to take my time and rest and when I feel better I should get going. I have been exercising and decided to the gym later. That helped a lot and now I barely feel the pain that was in my back. So I think its about time to go back out on the road because my wife is the only one working and taking care of the bills and Im the man of the house so it wouldnt be fair for her to be working but for me to be sitting and not working together. My wife was planning to be a trucker so we both could drive in teams but our baby is not even 2 years old yet so that wouldnt work out. I was planning to start next month but will be filling out applications for National Carriers , Heartland Express , Lessors Inc , Navajo Express , and Greatwide trucking. Once I get accepted I will join the lease right away then become a trainer. The question I had was not driving for 3 months and by next month it will be 4, will that be a problem ?

Start the application process now, because you're really pushing the envelope. I recommend you also apply with Comtrak in St. Louis. It's drop & hook. Comtrak also has a lease/owner program. Check the website.

I would'nt think 4 months would be a problem. But with all the nitemares I read about leasing,do you think that would be a wise decision? How much driving exp do you have? You want to be a tainer,I don't think any of those companies have a training program do they?

You might have trouble with some companies with 4 months off the road but there are a lot of companies out there. I agree with PattyJ, Leasing a truck from a company is always a bad idea but in your condition it is the worst idea. Training or team might be a better idea as the trainee can help unload whenever needed and most teams do loading/unloading a lot less than sole drivers.

I wish you the best of luck on your recovery and finding a job.

Is comtrak a otr company ? And yes I already did fill out the applications for each and I will call Monday. Plan on leaving by next week so im getting my things ready. Based on the information each recruiter tells me about each companies will make me decide which will be best for me. I will just ask a few info and information about the lease and the company with the best info, and for lease to will be the company I will go with. The company you told me about before which is greatwide sounds good. I just dont have to many info about them and dont know how the training works with that company because I was planning on to be a trainer to.

i agree with the other posts/ maybe ease into it without leaseing first and get your road muscles to the point your comfortable and then reevaluate yourself. good luck and happy trails

February 12, 2013 made me 4 years experience over the road. Yes theres a lot I have been reading about leasing and Its not easy because a lot of people gave up and a lot didnt make it successfully. But leasing was something I always wanted to try because I wanted to start a business and wanted that experience as a truck driver. And yes those companies dont look like they have a training program and that was one reason why I was looking at Crete, but Crete is not a company Im really interested in.

What happens if you lease a truck and your back goes out again? I don't think the time off is going to be a problem but the type of injury might make it more difficult to get the job you want.

Yes and with all that time off the road im thinking that It will be a problem but I dont want that to happen so thats the reason why im trying to get back on the road fast and as soon as possible. I cant drive in teams unless I really trust the driver. I like to drive on my own because I know what im doing. If I do drive in teams I will not be sleeping much because of the trust. I only know 8 guys that are truckers but each drive for different companies and to be honest only 5 of them I trust and would sleep great because I know they are professional drivers. Training is not something I would want to do because of that , but when you lease and dont want to have a hard time, you have to find a way to make more money. One of my friends, but he's not a trucker told me if I join lease I should do it with someone else not alone. Thats one reason why I chose the path to train to even if I know its not something I will be to comfortable with. But not only that but I chose training over team driving because Im the type of person that likes to help alot and teach when a person dont understand. Right now im in better condition but unloading is something im not planning to do
