Most companies require you to take a refresher course if you have been off the road more than a year.

 

If you haven't been getting regular medical card renewals make sure your CDL is still valid . Some states are now suspending CDL's when the medical card expires .

 

I got back into the truck after 15 years out of it. I never took a "refresher course" that so many companies said I had to take. It's a cop out. Can't even say it's a demand of the insurance requirements. I swear some of these bottom feeders use it as an income line for the books.

Agreed, double check your CDL with the state. End of this year (Jan 2014), they are going to start suspending your CDL if you have not self-certify your medical status.

RickG is right about the suspension if your medical card expires. live in iowa am retired renewed my medical card but did not contact the dot. got a letter from them about the medical card, were going to suspend my cdl if i did not send them a copy of my new medical card within 60 days.
