After driving flatbeds for the National Guard overseas,i finally decided to get my CDL since i cannot find any work in my previous trade. Of course all the usual suspects such as Roehl,Werner,Swift etc. have visited my school and made me offers to start with them. I think the hardest part of this whole deal is finding the right company to start for. So many bad reviews and negative comments about all of them. I could use any advice on what to avoid. The offer i have that sounds the best so far is from US Express. Since i am recently discharged from deployment, they will be starting me out at .39 cpm because they have a military appreciation program that pays the recently discharged the same as a two year employee. The downside is that they pay on a sliding scale, and ive seen what seems to be a lot of bad reviews of them on the forum here. I have to make a choice by next week so any advice would be appreciated.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Do a search, tons of info. To most of us they're called Useless Express.

The best place to start is Schneider National. That is where I got my start back in 1991. Also look at my thread about Crete Carrier. They are a terrible place to work but a great place to start out and get that first year in. I would stay away from US Express, Swift, CRST and most others. Trust me best place to start [if they still hire newbees] is Schneider.

I started with us xpress not bad company, if your going to do solo paycheck ain't gonna be much prolly between 450-600 after taxes. I did team after taxes and insurance pay check was around 1175 to 1300 a week.
