That's up to you. If you desire to run a lease team operation, using a LLC structure is a good way to split the profits as a partnership between you and your hubby. There is a CPA firm who has an office in the terminal, and they can help you with that if you want.

If you're going that route, I'd suggest incorporating in the state that you claim as your tax home... that makes things simpler. Do you folks have any trucking experience at all?

 

Do prime have a flatbed account through South Carolina and if youre starting in the FB dividsion what trucks are good on that side??

 

Trucking experience, yes. Just about 7 months. Business, none. That's why I'm asking probably some pretty REDICULOUS questions. Just trying to get as much info as I can before making a final decision on if its right for us.

 

Read the lease thread, and maybe get another year's experience. You will be opening a business, and the odds are stacked against you. Industry-wide, 9 out of 10 don't manage to complete those leases. I'd think you'd be better off coming to Prime and running a team company truck for awhile. All it takes to go lease from the company side here is a request for a trip to Springfield, and a working pen. At least that way if you don't like things, all you have to do is turn in your truck... you won't have a truck lease tied around your neck... and you can find out if it's right for you.

Great advise. Thank you. Another question of course... net, after all taxes, health insurance for the family, 401k, etc... We bring home about 950 per week. Lately it's been closer to 1k EACH. We are paid .48cpm. Pretty consistent loads. Can we expect at least that as lease? I know we have to be smart. I know our first year we may not do so well. But we don't have it so bad here. Looking to learn more, earn more. Don't mistake that for looking for a magic pill or wand. I think your idea of going to prime as a company team might be a good idea. Get a feel for everything first. Can we expect to make that as company drivers? I also agree that waiting and observing before jumping is a better way to go. I would rather be overly cautious and super successful than under prepared and fail... Thank you for your input!!

Not quite as many as you think. That's one of the problems for folks living in Florida... there's quite a bit of freight going in, very little coming out.
