Someone posted the instuctions for obtaining your HAZMAT a month or two ago and I can't find it now. Does anyone have that thread saved and can post the link here so I can look at it? Thanks!

Real easy. First you need to call the Haz center and register or register online, (via phone was easiest for me), make a payment via credit card (over phone or online) or bring a money order to your fingerprint center. This is the website https://hazprints.tsa.dhs.gov/Public/Splash.aspx

After you register over the phone or online you go and get fingerprinted at a HazPrints center. After a couple weeks you'll get a clearance or a denial. If you're cleared contact DMV and mmake sure they've received the notice from TSA. My notice took a week for DMV to process.

Take your DMV test and you now have a Haz endorsement.

Fyi. If its been over a year since you last got your endorsements you will be required to retake all tests again.

He would be much better off to check with his state DMV and see what their procedures are and where there fingerprinting locations are .

The website shows all locations in each state. Getting a Haz is really easy. Pretty straightforward

I would rather pay directly to the state for the background check rather than in advance on a website .

    I don't think you understand.

You're paying TSA for processing and a background check. The money goes to tsa regardless of if you pay the fingerprinting center, the website or on the phone. The state has nothing to do with a Haz license or your printing.

You HAVE to preregister via the phone or the website. Without ore-registration you cannot be fingerprinted.

Paying on the phone allows you to use a credit card. Paying at the center you can only use a money order. So if you'd rather get a money order then that's up to you. Since you're already on the phone with them to register some might find it easier to pay at that time.

The website has all the details incase you have some worries or questions.

Check with your state DMV that issued your CDL, all states are not the same. As for Virginia, there's no need to preregister with anyone or any other agency prior to going to the DMV to fill out a one page form, get finger printed, and pay the 83.00 fee for the background check. Virginia DMV allows you to pay with cash, money order, debit, or credit. What all states do have in common is that the background check is done by the TSA and only the TSA. Again, your DMV can answer your questions.

Every state doesn't operate like CA (Thank God ! ) . I've had 2 background checks and called the state DMV , went to the DMV office and paid a state officer that did the fingerprinting with a money order made out to the state treasurer .

Maybe in CA. Tested recently for my post 9/11 hazmat, was not required to retest for tank or doubles. Got those endoresements over 20+ years ago.
