working for a "mom and pops" trucking company

any company that has more of 30 trucks is waste of time...after about 30 trucks is where the greed starting to kick in and than u loose.

 

Not exactly Chief! There are many smaller companies out there with 2-29 trucks who are also bottom dwellers; suffering/begging for those same penny loads, using the same brokers who happen to be the worst in the industry (actually depending on these bad brokers for freight) scuffling to buy tires let alone maintain truck upkeep and last but not least, they certainly require you to fudge that L.O.G. 80% of the time if not more. Son, you will be running all day and all night none stop until you start believing or forgetting your own log lies, then BAM (D.O.T)! Lastly, remember that the 1099 can get you in much financial trouble if you are not using (that is paying some form of predetermined tax amount) to the IRS, in the form of monthly tax vouchers. Get a good C.P.A! I have now decided to give up on those smaller companies and to go back to the big boys (albeit the many negative issues), with their E-Logging may actually be the smarter choice for the smart company driver. My opinion.

 

Being a rookie, in todays world of trucking, I would like to say thank you for all the knowledge, I read the thread twice just to make sure I understand and know what I am getting into, on both sides, Bookmarking this thread for future reference, Knowlegede is power.

 

Idk. I tried crapload of different outfits over the years and every year is less and less satisfaction and more and more greed from companies. There is a very small profit nowdays in honest work. More regulations because of few bad apples is putting a lot of pressure on everyone else. #### govt wont even bother putting in place regs for broker houses. When it comes to money,if you look for more, everyone plays dumb and tells you economy is slow. To hell with thah

Brokers run amok. Drivers not protected by any labor laws. DOT/Police looking to ticket you for every little thing, companies 1099ing you so you have no health insurance, workman's comp, unemployment insurance, etc, etc. I laugh at the people telling newbs this is a good career to get into.
