Hello!
I'm a film student at the University of Southern California working on a fictional short film set largely at a rest area and involving several brief shots with a semi.
I need to engage the services of someone who owns a truck and lives within a half hour of Los Angeles.
Basically I just need to film an actor getting down from the truck, an actor and an actress sitting in it through the windshield (stationary), and a driver and the actress driving down the highway (from behind, her hand out the window).
Do any of you knowledgeable truckionados have any idea where the best place to start looking/post a want advertisement is?
Thanks for the help, I apologize if this is in the wrong category or anything!
Take it easy!

Jerome,
You may want to try someone like Penske who rents trucks, they also rent big trucks and may be able to help you. You can also look around at local trucking companies and go talk with a truck boss their, or call companies out of the phone book. Sorry we cant help you, we are an hour or 2 from Los Angeles depending on where you are, and our truck is going to be parked for a few more weeks.
Good luck,

I would travel to Ontario, CA to the T/A and ask the employees there (shop, restaurant ext..) if they may know a owner operator that may be interested in doing such a thing... I would think this is your best bet...
There are 2 T/A truck stops in Ontario..

East...
Hanging out in the restaurant talking to the "drivers who sit at the counter" would also be a good way to meet drivers who may be interested..
I do not suggest walking the parking lot asking... Drivers will assume you are a beggar or possible a thief, anyway you will not catch them in a good mood this way...
Hope that helps and good luck on your film... -
Thanks so much for the advice FunnyFarm and TruckerJo, I'll give that a try!

Yeah, I think the best thing would be to head over to the Ontario TA's. Anytime of the day either one is nearly full.
You would probably want to make sure that the driver is on home time or getting a 34 hour restart so they have the time for you to get your shots. I imagine you want to get more than one take.
Another consideration that I see is your moving shot (actress with hand out window). You would need to make sure that the driver can have passengers. Depending on the company it's no problem. Some companies will charge the driver. Anywhere from $25 to $50. The driver probably won't have a problem until he hears (moving shot) and then all he hears is (cost me money).
Just a few tips for you to keep in mind. Good luck.
