Good idea on the bonuses

48x96 10'2" spread. No toolboxes deck has some patches and a couple holes double pipe spools combo needs nailers be a good hay hauling trailer or crushed car trailer but that's about it. I'd rent it to ya for a while but it probably wouldn't be a good fit for otr anymore. Does have about 95% rubber and has new shoes on both axles. 2 new drums pigtail on the back for oversize. Rear axle dump on a 4 pin. Got a farmer that's supposed to come look at it sometime this week. He's going to haul hay with it. I don't really wanna dump it on another owner op that's going to use it for or if I don't have too but if it'd help get you by for a while and it don't sell we could work out a rental till you got your trailer back or found a better one that would suit you. If you were interested in buying it is take $5000 for it to cover the work I've put into it. Just want it gone.
Things will get better for you though sir. Might not think your luckily enough to have just had it towed but I sure hope it just got towed. -
I don't think some insurance covers a dropped trailer less it's like broke down or something. Think they look at it like it's abandoned.
I'd read my policy and police report first before filing a claim. -
That makes me wonder something. Suppose a truck driver is on his 34 hour re-start and there is somewhere he would like to go within a few miles of the truck stop where he is parked. I wonder if most of the companies you guys (and ladies) might have worked for would allow a driver to lock down his trailer there and bobtail somewhere or does he have to stay in the truck? If the driver has to stay with the truck, it seems to me that would be working as a security guard and there should be some money for that work too.

You haven't been in the industry much have you? Compared to relatively what we do, we get paid the least for what we do. Especially if you get paid mileage.
Yes, I read your other thread too. Seems to have a lot of unrealistic expectations on pay too. -
The driver is responsible for the safety of the load he accepts and the equiptment he operates. Face it...dropping a loaded trailer in an abandoned lot in gary indiana was a boneheaded irresponsible move. If you cant gallavant without endangering the equipment and the load then stay put. Truck drivers are not paid to be tourists. On top of that this clown had a secure spot to drop the load he was just too lazy to do it the right way.
Hanadarko Thanks this. -
No, not in the industry much, that is why all the questions. Yes, do have an I guess an unrealistic expectation of wages. I don't think it is very good to work for nothing. I also have a hard time fathoming why so many people are happy with working for nothing.
windsmith Thanks this. -
It wouldn't be a bad idea for drivers who feel they need to go bobtail somewhere to use a kingpin or gladhand lock to provide some kind of theft deterrent. It wouldn't hurt for owners to think about a GPS system and/or hiring competent drivers.

To the OP - Sorry to hear about your unfortunate luck. As it would go I think we all have similar stories - mine involves a driver getting busted for not doing logs twice in about 10 days ( we only ran SE regional and he was well within the HOS ) Needless to say the CSA score was quickly trashed then decided he didn't feel like going around Atlanta so he went straight through and you guessed it, a ticket for that. I told him that night to stop in Chattanooga or there about and take a 10.
After all this crap I decided I had enough. When I gave this driver the truck it was spotless on the inside as the previous driver had pride in being a professional. I about threw up and how dirty the inside of this truck had gotten. I then went and looked through the window of the drivers personal truck and it was spotless. It's just a shame how much of that, not my fuel, not my truck, not my CSA score, mentality this driver had. Just listen to me and do as I say and you would make $10,000 more than fighting the boss at every corner and questioning every thing. Conveniently this driver was O/O once...for two weeks - clearly if you cant make the numbers work doing it your way then listen to the boss who gave you a job, a truck, trailer, not to mention a check every two weeks, bonuses for doing it the RIGHT way and do it his way.
On the insurance question - typically the deductible is higher for an unattended trailer incident however I havent seen it excluded too much.
