I have seen quite a few Paccar trucks with the DEF tank on the passenger side. I won't doubt it is a matter of a spec'ing issue. I think it mostly had to do with that many who spec'd out the trucks just plain didn't think about the DEF tank location. It is a new deal for a lot of folks, and they hadn't thought about the location. When the truck was put together, since the buyer did not spec the tank on the driver's side, it got put on the passenger side. Those sitting in dealers lots got spec'd in a similar way. Everyone worried about the engine, gauges, interior components, drive train, etc.. but just didn't give the DEF tank any thought. I guess the sad part of all of this is the fact the manufacturer base specs have it on the passenger side and it is incumbent upon the person spec'ing the truck to make sure it gets spec'd on the driver's side. That is an example of the OEM not giving any thought to the real world application. The OEM's all know that the DEF pumps at fueling locations are on the driver's side, yet they put the tank on the passenger side if you don't specify the driver's side. Kinda detracts from the "Pete is a better quality truck" argument. Quality is not just about how the components are put together, but also how intelligently they are laid out and fitted. Paccar didn't give much thought to that one.

Pete's ride nice. But I dislike poking my head out the window when backing only to see the sleeper hump and not my trailer.

Can't say I'm a fan either, driver station is too cramped, too noisey, rides rough , despite the size of the cab it's to cluttered and why oh why is the clutch pedal a rod that sticks up through the floor- fun with oil on your boots! And the doors don't fit properly, that really annoys me
