I've been considering a tablet lately, although I already got a laptop and an HTC DNA ( ya know, one of them big screened ones). Thoughts anyone? Those that have a tablet, is it useful in areas where you want a larger screen where a laptop isn't practical? although my thought is if it ain't practical for a laptop (like a mall) there isn't any place forma tablet either. Should you be shopping in a mall instead of fiddling with a tablet? I could see it in the doctors office perhaps or in other lobby areas. And I could see it for business purposes. But really, besides all that, how often are ya sitting around in a lobby waiting?
Tablet or no?

I am an IT geek with many gadgets. Once you get a tablet you will stop using your laptop. I have an iPad and an Android Samsung tablet. I am an Android person but do like the iPad better. The built in maps are worthless for the iPad. My phone is a nexus 4 which is great have had iPhones in the past and I don't care for them.

I picked one up a little while back. It's a nice little toy. It's big enough that I can view a real webpage and small enough that I can easily take it in anywhere. I like reading the news and checking email while having breakfast in the t/s but I don't like lugging in the laptop.
I find it very handy in a lot of situations like that. If you have a few bucks burning a hole in your pocket it's a nice little piece of technology, wholly unnecessary though.
I still prefer the laptop.ThatFlatbedGuy2013 Thanks this. -
I've got a Note 10.1. I love it. Wife got it for me for xmas and I would never go back to a laptop now. I run foxfi on my phone (unlimited 4g data w/vzw) and stream netflix and d/l torrents. Lots of useful features I never even use as well.

tablets can only surf the internet and do internet related stuff. an actual keyboard to type with is an added cost.
for the same price you can buy a cheap laptop and do so much more with it.
i can see the IT guy above probably doing things with his. but for us average joes. i don't see the sense in spending that kind of money.
i won't buy an mp3 player. or a gps for my car. or an iphone or ipad or ipod. my cheap android phone does all that and so much more for less money.
if you really want a tablet though. i'd suggest the cheap $80 7 inch screen from radioshack. i bought one of those. and don't even use it. i bought it to mainly look at load boards. to which i'll probably just buy another cheap laptop and set up a mount instead.
laptops don't seem to last long with me on my truck. the power surges kill them fast. and i need my main laptop to last as it does my logs and faxes also.
i had one of those mini netbooks with the 10 inch screen and hated it. so i can't really see myself with a 10 inch tablet. too expensive for such limited function.ThatFlatbedGuy2013 Thanks this. -
I don't see me giving up my laptop. I love tech too but I know for sure that a tablet cannot play dvds, and they can't play the good vide games I like to play. That's why if I got a tab, I'd probably never usenit either even though i want one lol. In my downtime, I am learning how to develop android applications so the only real use I'd see in a tab would be for development. I might go with snowwy's idea though and just buy a cheap one for that purpose.

I have a Nexus 7, had it for a while now. I very rarely use it. If i intend on doing any typing at all, i use my laptop. Its faster, and can multitask easily. I bought the Nexus 7 intending it to replace my phone for media. But holding that larger device feels impractical when laying in bed or sitting on the toilet (the times i dont necessarily have access to my laptop).
Anytime im away from home (or out of the truck) i would have my phone. I never take my tablet, since its too big to fit in my pocket.
Web browsing in bed, however, its better on my tablet, because i can see more of the web page. But usually when i browse the web, im just looking something up real fast, or checking a forum. The phone does it fine. And if i want to make a reply on a forum, i pull out my laptop anyway.
I always have my Nexus 7 next to my bed, but 95% of the time i still use my phone because its more convenient.
My laptop + phone seems to cover any need i have. My tablet is just a pretty-looking device that makes me feel warm inside.ThatFlatbedGuy2013 and Dieselboss Thank this. -
