C12 cat, inframe kit $2500, and I have a local friend with a machine shop that rebuilt the head for 300 for me, and I also know a guy that rebuild my injectors for $250 for all six, I can rebuild pretty much any motor for under 5k unless it is a major overhaul.
Looking to buy a truck to make money from!

Id run away screaming if I looked at a truck n the guy told me it was inframed for under 5K. Ya get what ya pay for I always say. What kinda warranty do ya give em on an 'inframe' like that?
rjones56 Thanks this. -
WOW! An "inframe" kit for any Cat for $2500? Box must not have been yellow.....If so, point the direction to the parts?
Warranty will be EODW (End Of DriveWay)....
Seriously, warranty can be nothing but return to the seller. No shop in their right mind would stand behind a private parties engine build, especially not a $2500 in parts one.
Rebuild a head for $300? Rebuilt six pack of injectors for $250?
Rebuilt how on both of those????? I think me and the OP may have different opinions on what the term "rebuilt" means.
I have no sympathy with anyone that throws stuff together like this. Some guy is going to get a bank loan etc for a thrown together POS, that has inferior parts (IMHO) inside the motor, and has been covered with a quick splash of paint.
Hopefully the Op doesnt meet someone that has nothing to lose, but was a demolition expert in the military.......

Ok the guys that rebuild my heads and injectors are the best around if you dont think so come watch them do it, yes 2500 inframe kit its an after market brand and comes with a warrenty of 2 years, cats rebuild kit is between 3-5k depends on what package you get not much more than this other one. Interstate Mcbee, they are the ones who make the rebuild kits I buy, these shops and cat is charging you a 10-15k and 60% of that is labor.

And you are comparing the guys that rebuild the heads and injectors to what/who exactly?
Had them done anywhere else? Tested them at all, or just slap them back onto a motor?
Same questions for the aftermarket rebuild kits. They may look the same, but until you get into the individual parts, their materials and machining, you wont know until something goes boom.
There is a reason why trained and reputable mechanics/shops ONLY use OEM parts. That has been covered lots of times before, by folks that have rebuilt a LOT more engines than your good self.
Think I know the answers to the above, but in an effort to be fair I'll ask anyways.....

Not even in the same hemisphere of remotely true.
What happens is an engine is governed by laws of physics and these laws care not what box a part came out.
It is the safest rule of thumb practice to use OEM but there are some aftermarket parts that are actually better then OEM.
On another note I could not make money flipping trucks this way because when a truck goes in to a workshop I always find heaps of things I want to replace. -
Agreed that some parts can be made better, and indeed I use a lot of aftermarket parts for the engines I build myself, but they don't go into big trucks.
The only way to tell if a part is better is by testing etc. And I see no mention of it in this thread.
And yes, here in the States, the VAST majority of shops will only use OEM parts due to the liability of a guy being 3000 miles away when a piston breaks apart etc.
I can buy rebuild kits from whoever on the internet for a fraction of the cost of OEM stuff too, but wouldn't unless I KNEW 110% that they are the same or better than OEM stuff made for Detroit (which carries a nationwide warranty, unlike aftermarket kits and guys that think they can build engines better than a Detroit/Cat/Cummins/etc shop)
I stand by my statements, unless the OP can offer answers to the questions I asked of course.

You'll find THOUSANDS of trucks for less than scrap price in January if CARB ever starts parking the pre '08 stuff.

I agree I am not saying after market parts are better than the OEM parts, but me personal I have not had no problems with them so far, until I am proven that they are junk I dont think its a big deal and if so they should go bad before the 2 year warrenty is up which has not happened to me. For the head and injectors go yes they are tested before put into the motors I do I am not comparing them to noone you pretty much just came out and said that they slap the stuff together and there done and thats not true. But anyways my thread is about where I can find trucks if you dont have no answers dont say nothing.

Public forum bud, thus the public (like me) will always chime in whether you like it or not.
As far as your warranty goes, how long has the first truck you did (2 total IIRC), been on the road for now?
As far as cheap trucks for sale, I would be looking into the California market to find the pre 2007 models, which will be unable to run there after Jan1 2014. The problem is, these very same trucks are going for a premium in the rest of the country, due to the lack of POS emission stuff on them. But if you find a guy who cant be bothered with shipping etc, may be able to find a pre 2007 truck for cheap.
