    Hello,

Just signed up and read through a lot of threads and couldn't find this question. So I hope I am not repeating this one. I have a new 2013 Condo Cascadia Freightliner company truck. I just purchase a Predator 10k P-22 for the mirror mount. The mount that I have is this one http://www.rightchannelradios.com/cascadia-semi-truck-mount.html I have ground the door to the frame and the mount to the door. I am running LMR-240 Ultra Flex coax (low loss) with a Clear Channel AR-3500, 100 watt version radio (not an RCI product). I started the mount and tuning yesterday and took a pause after cutting 2" exactly from the stinger. Trying to avoid cutting it too short. I have multiple older stingers from old antennas at various lengths that I am going to use as "test stingers" to narrow down my length for the "real stinger". Has anyone used the 22" shaft on a Cascadia yet?? The stinger came in at 58" and I am down to 56" now. I have no problem cutting it more but thought I would see if anyone had a "ballpark" length that I can start with on my "test stinger". Also I am using my MFJ 259 Analyzer for my testing, not just an old SWR meter. Right now with the 56" it is way off the chart. The only place on the Analyzer that it comes out of the red is down on the 2-meter section which is way off. Any ideas or hands on suggestions will be highly appreciated.

What exactly is your swr? Keep in mind that tuning or cutting the antenna is only good for averaging your swr on 1 and 40

I had that same mount on my 2013 with a MM long shaft. I ended up cutting around 2 1/2 in off before I stopped. Even with all the bonding I couldn't get lower than 2.

I have this mount if anyone's looking for one. Won't do me much good now so if someone could use it I'd sell it cheap.

My SWR is well above 3. MFJ reads to 3 then hits the red which means way to high to me. And yes it's only good for 1 to 40 but gives you a good reference point for 10 meter and such.

Hey Colorado. Not sure if you did or not but that mount is powder coated. You have to get the powder coat off at all contact points. I ran an additional ground wire from the top bolt and bracket to the door jam inside and door jam to frame. It's grounded as good as its gonna get. I guess I'm trying to cheat a little and not cut on the stinger for an hour of two. Push come to shove I have a couple of 48" stingers that I can start with. Just nothing between 48" old stinger and new 56" stinger. You never know where that sweet spot will be.

You most likely have a rf ground problem and the antenna is too close to the truck body. If you lean the antenna forward the SWR will probably go down. You don't want to lean it forward very far, about 15 degrees max, or you will start to lose signal. If you drive the truck all the time, I would do some bonding; bracket to door, door to body, body to frame. Braided wire or old coax is best. Then play with the lean angle. You can probably get it adequate, doubt it will ever be what I would call "good", i.e. 1.5:1 or lower across the band with antenna straight up in the air. But with a little work it will be decent.

Yup. I removed it around the top bolt.

With this mount you can't lean the antenna.

You are right! My bad. I have the one that has the bird perch and you mount a normal mirror mount bracket on it. I don't drive the same truck all the time so I haven't bonded one of these trucks but others have and it helps. I lean mine forward to get the SWR down low enough to safely use it. It doesn't work very good but it will talk across the median (or medium for the dummies:biggrin_25523: out there).

When I had my Wilson 2000 on it was on a perch but the MM and predator are way to heavy.

To the OP... What did you bond to? Seeing 3's across the board usually is a good sign of a grounding issue.
