I am taking the plunge and giving up my school bus for a truck. I am getting ready to start CDL school and get into driving. My question is am I gonna have to go team at first or do some companies let you solo from the beginning?

You can do solo--no matter what company you go with--you will have to go out with a trainer for a few weeks before they turn you loose on your own.

Most company's will let you solo after you finish your training time.
You will probably have to go with a company trainer at least 3 weeks, no matter what company you go to. Then you will upgrade and go solo.

Try to apply with Watkins and Shepard out of Missoula MT. You will have to do a 10 day orientation and after that you can go solo right out of school. You will not need a trainer. The only thing is you have to live within a 100 mile radius of one of their terminals. They have a lot of terminals, so chances are you probably live around one. If you don't want to ride with a trainer that will be the way to go.

Try and call them anyway. Ask for Bonnie Dodge in recruiting. She's a nice person and if she can help you out she will. They may have a drop yard nearby.
