Most terminals are affiliate owned and the drivers are employed by the affiliate owner , not QC . Pay and benefits vary by terminal so you need info from terminals you apply to .
The bad thing is corporate safety runs the show on safety and they are the most incompetent safety department I have seen in my 30+ years in the industry .
Ever since QC got burned in a 2010 audit due to log falsification and improper record keeping of DVIR's safety tries to show drivers can't put anything over on them .
They run e-logs and get an instant notice whenever a truck exceeds 65 mph or hard brakes . Every month they send each terminal notices of how many times and when drivers exceeded 65 mph or hard braked . They think drivers should stay under 65 when passing a 63 mph truck and hit the brakes when in a line of trucks on a downgrade if the speed exceeds 65 .
They also monitor the amount of idle time and percentage of time using cruise control and will harass drivers to meet expected standards they have set for those .
I read a post today by an O/O that said he was leaving QC after 25 months due to the safety department . I retired last month at 63 from QC because I had enough of working for an ignorant safety department that had no respect for drivers and treated them like children .
As far as pay goes I was paid percentage and my pay hadn't changed in 7 years . My guaranteed rate was lower than starting tanker solo pay at PRIME .
Several years ago QC changed their way of calculating FSC for O/O's and told O/O's take it or leave it . Many left but not before checking with shippers that said they were still being charged the same FSC rate while O/O's got less .

That demonstrates how ignorant / bullheaded the "safety" dept really is, in light of the fact that they are a tanker company.

Another case: the safety dept refuses to allow us to use Texas intrastate HOS, despite the fact that our particular division of a QDI affiliate never comes within 200 miles of the state line.

I'm supposed to go in to see if I want a local position with QC tomorrow. Should I be scared?

If that's all you get local go for it if you can handle being harassed with e-logs . Do you know any drivers working there ?

Nope, not local. The ad said local, though. They're only offering regional. Meaning you are in your own bed every other night. I'm giving it a shot.

Over here it's 26% of line haul and detention after one hour. I guess they're really pushing to make sure you don't just sit around. We'll see.

That sounds decent. I have followed a couple of your other threads on here. Looking forward to your take on tanks given all the van adventures you have had. I can't imagine QC being any more anal about elogs than some of the other places you have been.

Yeah, Elogs aren't so bad. They do them on a blackberry, so this should be interesting. There's a relay inside your assigned tractor, so I'm assuming the blackberry stays with the truck, which is fine.

I'm hoping things go well. I have always been interested in tanker long before I decided to get a CDL.

The only unfortunate side of all this is that I replied to an ad for a local driver. After the interview, I was informed it was regional. I see they have day cabs and drivers moving them. I'll see if I can gradually work my way into local, though I do enjoy sleeping on the road occasionally.

If the op wants, I can continue to post here, or I could start another thread with a link to it posted here.

There's not much in the way of info for QC online. What little I did find seemed to be negative feedback from former drivers and decent feedback from very few drivers.

If there's one thing I've learned in the Class A trucking business, it's that sometimes I have to figure things out for myself. I've had a bunch of good and bad surprises out there.

I haven't been assigned a tractor yet, but I was told I'd likely get a mack with an automatic transmisson. This will be a small learning curve for me. I'm not opposed to an auto, but the concept is a bit odd at the moment. I do, however, like the idea of having a Mack. Sure beats a bumpy volvo!

I still play in a band, but I usually know a few weeks ahead when I need a certain day to be home. I'll already be home every other day, so that will really help with balancing my life.

The regional setup really seems like something I can make work for me. I just hope the line haul is high enough to make this a worthy endeavor.

Ideally, I would like to never have to get another trucking job again, so I'm really wanting to find that balance between living my life and working hard.

Well... that about covers it for now.
