Can a current Melton employee weigh in and answer one question for me. When they take the hair for the test, where do they take it from? Your head, or somewhere else on your body? Thanks.

stnadard is head, if your hair is long enough. Other areas, because of short hair, they took it from my underarm.

Aaaaaand yet another question from a noob. I'm slated to be in Tulsa on the 24th for orientation and I think my biggest worry is the tarping thing. I talked a good long time with my recruiter, Stephanie, about my medical history and she didn't think it would be a problem. Now comes the question.. I'm a over 35 female who could stand to lose a few. (Or more than a few...I dont bounce yet but *shrug*) Y'all see many females working for Melton and having an issue? I've come to terms that for a while my kid is gonna be raised by someone else..but I'm hoping for fair to consistant runs to Seattle. :biggrin_255: You boys help a girl out with something to boost my confidence and lower my stress level? (FWIW, new grad who found that I'm pretty well made to go OTR rather than stay home...)

We have several women that drive for melton. Some bigger, some tiny....all have no problems with the tarps. I'm sure being a woman kinda helps too....if there are things you'll figure out quickly, I'm sure one will be how to get a dude to throw your tarps on your load for you. ;)

Seriously tho, Melton is moving every truck to the 3 piece tarp set, which are a LOT lighter than the 2 piece, so they arent that hard to maneuver around. And when you're getting loaded, always ask the fork driver to place them on top of your load for you, put an end tarp on the front and back of the load, and if you need the third tarp, have him drop it in the middle. That way you just need to get up top and roll em out, without having to manhandle them from one end of the load to the other.

Now I don't know about consistent loads to Seattle....but we do go there :p

Thanks Noggin. I know I tend to overthink things and considering that I just got shafted by Knight, I'm stressing this one pretty good. (Apparently Knight doesn't like you to have dental work done, or get your life in order enough to NOT need to be medicated..go figure) I did over a decade in retail so I am used to hauling heavy sh---uh stuff around but I lost my job a year and a half a go when my store closed. I always loved my drivers (and driving) so here I am now. When talking to Stephanie, she said to make sure you can lift 100lb for the big tarps since they use the big ones. I've spent the last week picking up my teenage son off the floor to see if I still can haul up ya know? (Sorry.. ADD so my mind and thought flow bounces around in a big way) The manthing I have at home is to say the least not happy with my new career choice but what the hell. He can retire and come with me if he's so worried eh? I'm REALLY looking forward to the job after being off this long, but after the bad experience with Knight anxious as all hel-uh heck. (SO not gonna be good for my blood pressure) I think the only thing I'm NOT looking forward to is the Greyhound from WA to Tulsa. Two days with people in a sardine can isn't my idea of fun. (Yeah I know.. but trucks are DIFFERENT..) I'm not even sure what to bring with me. Since Knight was just down the road a piece, I took a bag with clothes and one with food and I'm not sure that I'll be able to bring the food. (Flat as--uh..broke being out of work and UE bennies means NO money literally) So I worry.. and stress.. and hope like hex I can pass orientation. I know my preinterview was more than I had at any other place. I talked with them a couple times for over an hour going over things.

Being a woman I'm sure will help with some things..being an older more fluffy one I'm not sure about :D I'm not 21 and Smexy any more ;)

Noggin, how hard is the road test? I was wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea for me to head by my school and get a couple drives in to make sure I can find the gears still. :D I struggled a bit with my backing in school and it's been a bit since I've been in a truck.

I didn't do my test in Tulsa, but I hear as long as you DONT put it in the ditch or take out any poles you should be fine. You will pull a trailer with some jersey walls for a couple miles.

Since you will be a while before you get home to load up your truck, I'd say bring about a weeks worth of clothes, plus maybe 2sets of work clothes. (I have pants and orange shirts i wear specifically for working so I don't ruin my "good" clothes). Hard hat and safety vest will be issued in orientation so you don't need those...slight charge, taken oug of your fheck. Brjng entertainment...laptop, word finds etc. It gets boring during down time. But remember you will be in a trainers truck, so you can't bring too much stuff. After orientation, you will get paid for the orientation. It will be in cash, or on a credit card, idont know how they are doing it these days. I got 40 a day, I'm not sure if its gone up.

Bless you for being a font of information... I sure hope that there'll be a place to charge the lappie and Kindle. :D I think that I will go and get a drive or so in at the school (eh..its free and they pay gas...ya know?) I'll have to see if I can get one of those safety shirts somewhere. My daughter and I decided to get some boxes from her dad's work and pack em with books to make sure the weight lifting thing wont be an issue. *Shrug* I get anxiety issues going so I'm trying to cover all my issues and plan for trying NOT to get sent home. I've spent the last day or two reading through some of the forum here and with people saying things about Melton and the orientation it's triggered the anxiety.
