I work for Maxland Trucking. Can't say anything bad about them.

I work for and like Central Refrigerated Service. My first company, school was fast paced, some consider it a "mill" but for a fast paced person it was perfect for me.
Took almost 5 months before I started seeing good miles and loads, but I guess that is standard, even though recruiters lie.
Currently I get 3000-3400 miles per week on full weeks, ususually 1500-1800 when I go home for 3 days.
I love the equipment and main reason I chose them was to drive the Volvo. Now having driven the Volvo, Kenworth W900, and Freightliner Colombia and Century, I still prefer the drive of the Volvo, But would like the extra space of the Freightliner.
Starting out in the trucking industry your choices are limited, you are almost forced to go to a Larger company as they cann afford to pay the insurance. Better jobs come with experiance, and at all truck jobs you still have the same BS.

Well for my money I'd say Romero Trucking. I drove there full time for 5 yrs. I left to run local. I still help them out when I have the time. The last year I worked there full time was, in 1996 I made 58 K. Mind you I worked hard, but I was home 2 days a week every week unless I wanted to be somewhere else. I dont know what the current driver pay scale is. They have BC/BS insurance, 401K, Safety and fuel mileage bonuses, paid vacation and holidays, and a rider policy. There are probably some things that Ive forgotten but you can ask them if you call 1-800-745-1146 talk to Brenda, Sherry or Carole or go to their website: http:// Romero Trucking
They arent too big only about 50 trucks now, all new Peterbilts, new refrigerated trailers and a state of the art shop. They do some drop and hook so that makes it nice. You can get your paycheck just about anyway you can think of and always on time. They have decent driver facilities with a shower, sleeping rooms, laundry, games and a pool table. Your dispatcher will be most of the time be, Rauls Romero the man that owns the company. Theres always some one to call if there is a problem days, nights, holidays and weekends. They work with you when you need extended time off for what ever reason. As with any company Im sure not everyone fits in there, but I cant think of anything bad about them
They also have a brokerage department, Skipper is the contact there. They pay the truck the same week they get the POD and your invoice.
Another company I know is TST also in Alabama. They are a flatbed company, small but growing. Decent equipment, pay and benefits as well. Good shop as well. The have predominantly Freightliners. They haul some wide loads no east coast. The guy that owns it, Todd Sheridan hes about as straight up as they come. Ive known and worked with him for years. The dispatcher Reba is a good person and her husband drives as well. She gets the trucks in almost every weekend. They also have a brokerage department, talk to Reba if you need some help getting a load. Their number is 334-358-1780.
Hope this helps some one
Until nest time, Happy trails,

My favorite company has been Schneider National. I was treated with respect when I worked there, they constantly told me how much I was appreciated, they did what they said they would do, they got me home, and the people I worked with were awesome.
