Interesting. Con-Way flat out denied me because of my address in South Florida.
With so many years of experience I would try smaller companies, ones that require more experience. Dillon requires two. Schneider tanker I read is good, Roehl, Watkins Shepherd, Heartland Express...

Looks like a decent opportunity for dedicated Fla -
Yes I actually came across this thread and I read it. It seems like a very good company to work for. Unfortunately, I don't have the experience they require. For me, being a new driver, I guess my best shot is at Schneider tanker.

Try Mckenzie Tank Lines (hazmat tanker). They will consider hiring recent CDL grads DEPENDING on the type of school you went to. At least the Panama City terminal does. They don't seem too interested in the run-of-the-mill truck driving school graduate that gets bare minimum time behind the wheel training (that is what I inferred from the conversation I had with a terminal manager). They do have a Ft. Lauderdale terminal. It's on 36th street in Davie.

Thanks for the advice. I don't know how I have not heard of them. I graduated from Sheridan Technical Institute in Pembroke Pines with 1500 miles of driving for 9 weeks of training.

On their website Mackenzie says they require two years of experience? Are you sure they hire student drivers?

Yes. They do not advertise the recent CDL grad option on their website. I do believe they may mention it on their ads on careerbuilder.com if they have any up. I would be surprised if hiring requirements are terminal specific but anything is possible in this industry.tonakis Thanks this.

Just got hired on with CCC. Orientation starts this coming Monday, so I don't have any real information yet. I was warned by the recruiter that it is long hours and early start times. Sometimes starting as early as 2am and working sometimes till 7 or 8pm. Not quite sure on hours of operation for local drivers as I've never done it. I believe local drivers still have to follow the 60/70 rule though right? As far as pay you get a percentage of the load which varies by experience and is determined prior to starting. They give a weekly range from $400-$700 which is kind of odd. It was explained to me as it is based on rate and amount of work. I told the recruiter I can't work for less than $700 and was told I will be fine, so we will see. Anyway, it's local, home every night and Monday-Friday. Hauling dry cement for local concrete companies. I'm excited about the work schedule, but will keep everyone posted as soon as I start working on my own and get the real deal on hours and pay. After working in South Texas this past year in the oilfields, nothing will compare to that money, but I want to be home, and home every night.
