I work as an hourly driver at a propane company. I understand 14hr day, 60hr week ect. My question has to do with being on call for emergancy deliveries.
If I work a 10 hour day, 6am-4pm and get a call at 7pm to go out, then return at 9pm, thats 12 for the day. Does this mean the next day needs to start at 7am?
I guess what I am asking is from the last hour worked, is it a 10 hr break?
During a 34 hour reset, is taking a call from the service center to answer a question that is work related, considered On-Duty?
We work some bizzare hours from time to time and never really had a cut and dry answer.
Thanks in advance if anyone can shed some light on this.

Its 10 hours from the time you clock out.
Yes you can take a phone call and not log it, however answering repeated qualcom messages, telephone calls etc would violate your rest period. This would be there mainly to protect you drivers from someone bugging you while you are on your break and also you pestering your driver manager.
You can also work 1 16 hour day
. Also you can use the 14 hour rule everyday if you fill out a log sheet. But it does depend on your state

Thanks Logs, thats helps... Would a time card with electronic stamp work as a log sheet or would it need to be a actual log.
We only work on call once every 6 weeks. It does last 7 days. So I guess using a log sheet once every six weeks would be OK? Our usual work day is 10-11 hours, so we really need to watch hours during on call time.....
Thanks again, I always read your post.... They do help clear up lots!

But, in order to do that you have begin and end your day at the same place everyday.

Actually with the 16 hour rule you can work more than 1 day/week. If you return to your starting location the previous 5 duty tours. Example is you can work on monday for 16 hours (11 driving) then be off for 34 hours, then wednesday work 16 hours, be off for 34 hours then work 16 on Friday.
