I have been using PC (yes, desktop in the truck) and Delorme Street Atlas software which as much as I try Streets and Trips once in awhile, cannot be torn from Street Atlas. I do have S&T installed with above mentioned truckstop overlay, but rarely even look at it. Street Atlas Plus lets you build your own databases and/or use 'draw' files to map anything. Between 23 yrs of driving and my 'xdata' files and 'draw' files with SA, I don't find a compelling need to use S&T with the overlay.

I have RM TND 720 and next to it I put my Google Nexus 7 with Google Maps and Traffic enabled
Also have a PCmiler 510 that I rarely turn on.

Google Earth on my computer with GPS hooked in is great when I approach my load/delivery points. I even found a program that let's me use Street Atlas/Streets&Trips/Goolge Earth all off of 1 GPS antenna.
Franson GPSgate, bit of a learning curve, but it works. Free version let's you run 2 programs and Google Earth at same time.

co pilot really is the best. and the cheapest too.

as for googling your destination. i don't even bother. becuase the bottom line. you have to make delivery. stopping for a few minutes to check out the scenery doesn't really help. you still have to drive there. no getting around it.

and lately i've had a few address where google didn't have it right. but if i find i need to change directions. i keep on driving and let my copilot reroute me to come from the opposite way.

Rand McNally laminated oversized print map. Learn to use that it will never let you down once you learn to use it properly

like i said in that other thread. to which i can't seem to find.

you can buy a tablet with gps way cheaper. and if you really want that program. you can download the app for $32. or you can download it to your android phone. all the other apps installed on the thing are free.

bestbuy has lenovos for $120. 7 in screen and gps chips. and the price goes up from there.

a 10 in screen will add another $50.

Been using Truckerstablet for about six weeks now. Compared to the Cobra 7" which I dumped after two weeks and the Rand Mcnally TND720 which was stolen, this beats both of them. Hauling hazmat and routing so far follows my preplans exactly. Recalculating a route is instantaneous and I mean instantaneous. Compare that to the TND unit which would only advise of the new route half a mile after I passed the suggested new route. As an Android tablet, so-so but for the money, a better buy than a stand alone GPS.
