If I remember correctly, when it comes time to matching students up with first a CDL Instructor and later with a Trainer, both times the prospective Instructors and Trainers come in the room where all the students are. The staff kind of tries to match students with trainers... Before this event, ask the staff and ask around about which people they think are good Instructors/Trainers, of the ones coming in. If you can interview the Instructor/Trainer, I would highly recommend doing this! Remember, you're going to be spending months in the truck with the Trainer! You want to try as best as possible to find someone who you'll sync with! If you don't sync up good, you're going to have a harder time on that truck! You may even get to the point where you want to kick your Instructor/Trainer off the truck and go it alone, as oldB52 jokingly referred to in another thread this morning!:biggrin_25523:

I'm starting on the 18th, god willing that I pass the DOT physical. Good luck to you when you start.

In all seriousness, if you can interview them, if I were to do it over again, I'd ask direct questions like: What is your philosophy on training? This is kind of a bs question. See if they can come up with a cogent answer. You could ask why they train students? If it comes out that its just for the extra money, that might be a tip... You could say, my intention is not to offend you, but do you tend to yell and belittle your trainees when they mess up?, or, if that's too direct, you could ask: How will you respond when I make a mistake? You are going to make mistakes, and having a real yeller will not help you keep your mind about you to be able to recover and excel!

Even if you don't really find out anything real about that person, as that Trainer is gonna be on his or her best behavior, you might just get a feel from the few minute conversation with them, whether you may sync or not.

You've got a full week! If you're not already, I'd start at least walking a good distance every day, if you're able, to get a start on building up your cardiovascular system some... Might help just a bit in passing that physical. Also, not saying that you do, but if you're eating poorly, start eating healthy, now! May help just a bit too.
