How about just going back to the old Cat can water sep that used to come on them? I went back and believe it helped, I don't have a presure gauge but vaccum side went down and truck runs better. Got the biggest one I could get from Cat and very happy. Just wandering.

The cost of replacing an injector and the down time that maybe out on the road also should be considered. -
BullHaul- Are you "replacing" primary or are you going to make racor "secondary"? I made mine 2nd. The racor I work with always, and picks up everything. So I change primary twice a year. I would make primary 20 micron as well as secondary, and inspect fuel line from tank to secondary to be sure it is not collapsing. On my boats this is what we have and never hade an injector problems ever; even after 18,000k on my last engine. Fuel from the truck to boat has a lot of crap in it. This is the way I did it for my 379. You will be happy wit this. Mike-Z -
When the 3406C came out they had a problem with smoking when cold, the fix was to change the fuel filter to a FF 211 on the secondary and a FF1212 primary it is a 10 micron primary. I have seen changing the secondary to the 211 work on a few units,it is a lot bigger filter, it barely fits in the filter mount.
Just a thought!MZdanowicz Thanks this. -
JohnP What you said is real true. My problem I found was I had a 2 micron filter cart. When I changed to 10 on secondary and 20 on primary problem almost gone. Thanks Mike-Z -
I changed fuel filters thus weekend, kept regular cat secondary but threw on a fleetguard for the primary parts guy gave me a fs 1000, didnt have the 1212 on hand... I gained 20 psi of fuel pressure and a very noticable diff for the better right away, Service said he used to work at where they make these filters he said cat filters have extra layers of filter material than fleetguard and are more restrictive. Which judging from instant fuel pressure increase ive gained im thinkin hes right
anyway gonna run er like this and see but if it didnt get any better i could b happy with it nowMZdanowicz Thanks this. -

The secondary should always be a 2 micron. At this point it is on the pressure side of the fuel system and it doesn't create a restriction

So to be clear, on my 550hp 6nz, what filters do I want?
cetanediesel Thanks this. -
Yeah thats what i was told 90gph, but even if he gotit wrong and it actuslly is 110gph, either way its got too much restriction and is never goin back on
