I will say this, for all the new drivers who ask the same question over and over that this board seems to bend over backwards to answer each and everyone with respect and kindness.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to express any type of gripe about the endless posts in the new drivers board. -
What I want to know is where can I go to drive me one of them long hood trucks. They look enough like a phallus that I would feel like a real man if I could drive one.

Because once in awhile there's a driver that comes along that truly does need some advice and I'm more than happy to help. You're getting up there in experience to pass on your experiences too. Nobody is saying you have to but the old tradition is to pass on the good tips to the less experienced driver.

You can still try northern CA, OR, or WA. But I know what your saying because it seems like someone is telling the decision makers that a common carriers are better and cheaper. We know that's not true but these book experienced collage boys show them on paper and they go for it. The problem started when the majors started recruiting from ivy league schools. You don't need to know about the gasoline business only business itself. When the gasoline experienced went away so did the common sense about hauling gasoline. Those old boys that started with Richfield taught me a lot. Things like back hauling the pipe and finding the mile marker where it does become cost effective for common carriers. We also had one great example on how people that do not know distribution can cost the company big dollars. There was this kid that convinced the company to lease a complete truck and trailer spec out to our needs instead of buying a new setup every 5 years. So they found this company up in Canada to take a new KW and build the tanks and fittings for us. After 5 years was up the company found out to get the most dollars on their investment the truck could not have any problems and all the wear and tear items had to be new. It cost them a few thousands just to return that one unit. The other trucks that the company bought out right were sold as and the truck without the trailer sold for $55,000. The truck made money over the time span and then they could keep the trailer for 10 years and sell the power unit in 5.
So now that all the talent has retired job security is not what it used to be. But remember someone has to haul the product so you'll always have a job but it would suck if you went for a major and then they closed the terminal. Who you pulling for if I can ask? -

I drive for a Chemical company. I'd rather not say who it is but we use a lot of common carriers from local deliveries to over the road. We need them and I'm glad they're there to help with the slack. The crazy thing is that we've had an opening for a driver for over a year and we're having a hard time filling it. Starting is 75k. Go figure.
In the late nineties after my four years of volunteer service to Schnieder ended I got job offers from Cox Petroleum, Beneto, and Jack B Kelley. It's funny how these three companies no longer exist. They got bought out. This is the unfortunate reality of local tanker deliveries these days is that you might work out of the same terminal but you're going to have to reapply for the same job every couple of years when the contract runs out and a new trucking outfit takes over. Seniority and benefits resets to zero. Sucks.Last edited: Jun 11, 2013

You completely missed my point. I don't mind passing along the things I've learned. My point was why make a thread mocking new driver questions? Nobody is making anyone answer the same question over and over. I shouldn't be surprised. If ya don't like what you're watching, change the channel!
