Don't you have to be 21 years old to apply for a us cdl, im not sure about how your son is 19 and he is a cdl holder.

All you can do is apply other places. Not going to find a job any other way. It will be hard with no employment recently but it's possible.

They don't actually require 10 years of work history be documented. They only require all jobs that you drove a commercial vehicle in the last 10 years be documented, and all jobs in the last three years. Employers and insurance are the ones that want a full 10 year work history of all jobs, CDL used or not.

But you are right, you do not actually need a work history. I hadn't worked for three out my last four years when I started driving.

You can drive intrastate under 21.

OP since your work history was under the table you have to put n your apps as unemployed do not say anything about it how you supported your self during that time is unrelavant if they ask tell the its not applicable or that you stayed with family or wife/girlfriend if they pry anymore about it than you bring up "calling your lawyer" you dont even have to have one as they will shut up about it.

as per the one that claims her 19 yr old son has a cdl A is liying or there son just wasted his time and money if he went to a school as no OTR company will touch him till he is 21-22 and than he will have to do refresher course costing him even more money. the only way that is probabale is if 1 he got class a but is driving for a class b job or a yard hostler or 2 has family in local ltl company so he got his foot in the door, without the typical 1 -2 yrs OTR requirment most have

documenting the fact you stayed home and took care of sick family
is as simple as a doctors note
self employed a note from an accountant suffices
of course under the table not paying taxes makes it more problematic
    but not impossible
new drivers only are required 3 years of work history without gaps
so being on unemployment those dates count too
communication with the office types is the key to a rewarding outcome

Or farming related work, or construction or a multitude of other local jobs. There's more than one path into trucking other than going OTR. You can drive intrastate at 18 and there are places out there that will take people that age.

i worked for cash 9 mths out of last yr. talked to a lady that ran a trucking school here in ky just this week and asked her the same thing. she said all i could do is just say i was unemployed and it should be no big deal. she said they deal with this kind of thing everyday. now, was she telling me the truth? who knows, let you know in a few mths. good luck.
