Which company would be better to start out my career with? From my research both companies are about neck and neck on paper. Similar hometime and pay. TMC has the black and chrome Petes but that doesn't pay the bills. Boyd's recruiters have been more eager and attentive with me than TMC. Hopefully someone that has been in the industry can give me a little real world perspective on the two. Thanks

If you like to donate your time to cleaning a company truck then TMC is your ride . They will teach you how to tarp better than teaching you how to drive
I don't know them but I have read a few negative stories from their drivers having to wash the equipment every so often
Or the company will chew their pants if they didn't.
Boyd I would want to find out how much they will pay me hourly if I get in a steel plant and the union boys decide to load my truck the next morning

Thank you for the responses. I'm in eastern Oklahoma. Im borderline clean freak and like to keep my stuff squared away so cleaning a truck isn't a problem for me. Any one know how true to their word boyd is about hometime? I was told every other week end but they try for every weekend.

Up here in Michigan I see Boyd home pretty consistently on weekends but seems to be the busy season, probably a coin toss when it comes to hometime.

Also would prefer to have a clean truck myself IMO don't see where you would go wrong with either choice. Check to see if they offer a bonus in your area also.

TMC requires you to wash your truck every other week, but you can wash it every week if you want. But you better keep the inside spotless. I knew a guy that got docked half a cent per mile for a month because he had a penny on the floor and a paper towel crumbled in the cup holder. I'm not sure how strict other flatbed companies are with their tarp training, but TMC requires you to shoulder a 120 pounder from the floor, carry it to the back of the trailer, put it on a steel coil on top of the trailer, then carry it back to where you started.

You sure the guy that told you that story wasn't blowing smoke? I am wondering of that is even legal.

TMC.....is great...tarping....I'm 5ft8...156lbs..120lb tarp is nothing....its not like u r doing it All day..you'll tarp once a day. ..maybe twice...
Washing ur truck..hey its like taking care of your house...just clean as u go...if u are nasty at home then u will be a nasty driver...take pride in your equipment. .its not like u r buying the truck or footing the bill on fuel...and u don't pay for washing the truck....dispatchers r cool...u get butt holes once in a while...its trucking. ..good luck to all of you...

Boyd trucks are governed 3mph higher if that makes any difference to you. I feel sorry for those black shiny petes dogged out at 62. I've met some cool TMC drivers though.
