Eyes lighting up over what appears to be big money happens in most careers these days. I can say that from my own eyes at my previous career for 25 years. I can't tell you how many times I saw newbies get sucked in that black hole with college degrees to boot that cost them or their families thousands. Some of them have up to $75,000 in school debt yet having to accept $20,000 to $25,000 a year income job. Lucky me I got in before degrees were required. My job cost me $0.00 and when I took the early retirement, they were bringing them youngone's in at the above income but it cost them youngone's as much as $75,000 for a BS degree and I don't mean Bachelor of Science. These youngones were always asking me how I was able to take it? I always told them know how to pick your battles and work your way up like I did. Funny, their over priced education didn't teach them that. I say this all because it doesn't matter what career, you will find a high rate of turn over at the bottom because most kids out of school want top pay and top positions right way or they leave not wanting to start at the bottom.

Guy's I didn't start this discussion to debate why or why not the funds are offered. If you don't like it, you don't have to read my discussion. Contact you state and federal representatives. You might as well get use to newbies. There is coming a day when some newbie will be taking your place. After all we all get to old for the job at some point and like it or not you must retire or die trying.

The GI Bill will pay for school and if you were in around 9/11 the Post 9/11 GI Bill will pay for school and provide BAH every month. Just an FYI.

    RickG,

Read the following again did it ever occur to you those that getting retrained are or have paid taxes as well. Funny when you point a finger there are four pointing back at you.

The WIA is a Federally funded program for the unemployed, underemployed, in finding employment as quickly as possible anyway, with the skills they already have or train with new skills through training at approved schools.

I don't mind taxpayer dollars being used for gainful careers . Yeah , they get people employed quickly , then a few months later they said someone else to fill that same position because the last guy left .
Do some reading here about half of people at orientation being rejected , and how many people saying only 1 or 2 of the people they went to school with are still driving .
That's what 1 object to . Only 1 of 10 people trained with WIA funds will be in a truck 6 months later .
As far as the GI Bill goes , I'm a veteran and I think it's criminal the way starter companies exploit veterans .
There are far better careers for veterans to pursue .

And one last question RickG. As I see by your profile your a long time driver 35 years
how many people who started in the late 70's with you are still at , how many lasted that six months,
    first year .

I can't tell you that because over that time I have relocated in 5 different states . I can tell you over the years I can count on one hand the number of drivers working for carriers I worked for that started with one of these "starter " companies . More trainees fail now because they enter the industry as an act of desperation and don't have the sense to realize carriers have a higher standard for hiring than CDL mills have for taking students' money . Go for it . We'll see where you are a year from now .

Well you clear something up there. Act of desperation. When we act out of desperation we only Hear the things that we want to hear we think the hardships that happen too others will some how magically miss us . But I'm clear on your point now. as for going for it I'm only doing this as my new job requires me to have it 10%-20% driving and the rest of the time it's labor now that's what I should worry about
@ age 51 I don't recover as fast as once did Lol.

    Stay safe out there

    RickG Thanks this.

Are you paying for school ? A lot of industrial cleaning companies need CDL drivers to move trucks from site to site . Many operators operate the trucks strictly on site and don't have CDL's . I went to MPW Industrial Services as a CDL but saw them get CDL's for operators . After 2 years I was a supervisor with a company truck but left that because I felt crews weren't given adequate hazmat training .
