If you want to drive van local you will need to get at least 6 months otr that's not enough but it's the minimum requirement for a local job or if you wanna drive flatbed local i would recommend melton truck lines or TMC

Flatbed can be hard work but it is not that bad. Once you get used to it you can strap and tarp in no time at all and it keeps you in shape. Maverick is a good company also they have Temperature Controlled Division (reefer) Just don't know what the requirements are in that division.

I would put Western Express at the bottom of your list. Prime would be better you could look into Roehl, but they only hire flatbed drivers in the SW I believe.

I think you're right. Go pull a van. You sure as heck don't want to be dragging around those dirty chains, and (shudder) TARPING! Nobody likes those old dirty flatbed drivers anyway. Those flatbed drivers did poorly in school. Heck, you can go run team in a van and make more than any flatbed driver.

Those flatbed drivers really are weird. They do strange things. I saw one recently place several pee bottles in front of other trucks drives, then when the truck would pull out and the pee bottle explode, the flatbed driver would sit in his truck and snicker like crazy.

At least your in Phoenix where the freight is consistent year round. Also, try Knight/Squire.

Watkins-Shepard is the best company i've ever been with. Leased to them in my pic. They bend over backwards for you.
