I run on percentage, you always have to look at the big picture. Look at once load, or one week, and sometimes it may seem you are going to get paid better for cent per mile. But over a year, for me at least, it balances out and I make way more pulling percentage. And it really depends on what you are hauling, I haul dry bulk. Products that are harder to unload, or take longer to deal with, the load typically pays a lot better. Keep things like that in mind when looking at what kind of option you want to go with!

Also, the last 2 years the furn mfrs. have had a price increase, so I also got a raise.

I also raised my rates this year to compensate for the purchase of a newer truck or to retrofit my '01 Volvo to run CA. come Jan.

The answer to this question is like asking which church I should go to
If you are going to work for cpm you get your deadhead miles paid
if you take % you pay your own way (-10 cpm) for every empty mile you drove 10% 100,000 miles $10,000 empty miles
    BUT HERE IS THE CATCH
Who do you think is going to PU the loads with the LONG Dead Head Miles The % Guy Or The CPM Guy ????
    Solution
Get your own authority and Set your self free if u Can

I ran BTM and it worked out to better pay but I owned the truck. It was at the time 1.25 loaded and 85 ety and $40/drop and we would have 40 drops on and get most off in 1 day. If a load paid exclusive, like $3/mi we got extra also and added bonus for hauling 65 ft beams out of Oregon.

Te Govt paid the U of Mich. $250000 to find out what dogs say when they bark all night. They say "HEYHEYHEYHEYHEYHEYHEYHEY"

Remember, when you dead head for your next load, those miles are not paid on percentage. That can be and is a killer. Unless you understand the freight lanes, don't do percentage. When freight rates drop... you take a huge hit on percentage.

My best month have had 1000 or less miles and $3600+ revenue a week.

If you go percentage, make sure you, dispatch and the owner are ALL on the same notion of revenue NOT miles when the book loads.

Shoot for $1000 days and less than 200 miles.

I was spending maybe 1 or 2 nights a week away from the house....
