OTR turn over rate is because these company's lie, don't pay a fair wage, make you stay out longer and longer to take care of your family. How can they think you can make a living on .32 to .34 cents a mile to start, well just my thoughts.

Exactly! I wouldn't even start the truck for that kinda change. Rights now Schneider, Best Western and US EXpress is campaigning on Craigslist in the NY and NJ to get "new drivers in new trucks with solid hometime and good pay". It's laughable when you read the details.

And on top of it, Schneider - at least for bulk - has instituted a new pre-work screen that eliminates more than half of the potential trainees with tests that don't practically relate to the job. And then they wonder why they are over 100+ drivers short!!!

This is just my story and I am sure that there are driver's there doing great. But I worked at Freymiller I went broke, stayed out for 2 months at a time never turn a load down, did what ever I was told and still couldn't get enough miles. I figured if I paid my dues it would get better, NOPE... After a year my wife had all she could take and I quit. I still have some friends there, they are hiring 4 to 8 drivers a week, and still have trucks sitting empty. Like I said .34 cents is a joke. How are driver's going to take care of them self's and there family's?

I think if I owned a company, I'd be better off with a truck being driven by a happier driver at 50+CPM than to have it setting empty at 32. Considering all the fixed expenses that have to be paid even if he truck is parked at the yard. Trying to fill empty trucks for low wages has to be more expensive than keeping trucks full at a higher wage. Ask most companies how much it cost to recruit and train a new driver too. Doesn't seem too hard to figure.

Ithink brokers and shippers are the problem. .witch leads to the poor wages..brokers are not supposed to be able to double and triple broker freight but they do and the trucker is left holding a half or fully eaten chicken bone when it started out a whole piece figuratively speaking. .so we lose alot of money there then the shipper and receiver docking us for hours costing h.o.s and that leads to less loads and miles for the week and between the two were left scratching our arses wondering how to make it ..we shouldnt have to be on the road 24/7 2 weeks at a time to get buy and theres no reason for it

how's that cross border trucking program with mexico workoing out???

i'm american. and i've racked up a couple of fines that made me think about quitting. can you imagine the illegals who don't quite understand the laws. and the fines they would rack up on that low income they would work for.

what i'm not understanding is why people think they need to stay out for weeks at a time. to make money. when regionals get you home every weekend. and make the same money.

that's the way trucking outta be. cuz most of my weekends these days. are camping out.

There is no driver shortage. I have been hearing about this driver shortage for 20 years. I see companies paying experienced drivers $.34-$.39/mile.. I made $.37/mile in 1997.. So wages are much lower when you factor in inflation. A driver shortage would push wages higher. Furthermore, I think drivers are treated worse by companies today due to the fact that there are actually plenty of drivers to hire. If you quit, they can easily replace you.

Driver shortage is just propaganda. People hear about it and go get a cdl. And the companies can keep the wages low.
