Hello everyone I have a new class 1 , I have a company that offers me 18 cents to start in training. Its ok for first three months but after that I will be assigned my own rig.

1.I have a question will I be able take home 4-5 grands each month by being home after every 6 days.

    2. The only reason I wanna quit my present job is it is too physical and i only sleep maximum 5-6 hours a day , and been doing it for some years now ,no doubt I make good money and enjoy farming as well but iI wanna be in something where i can have my own thing one day be my own boss where as in Dairy Farming its almost impossible to have my own Farm bcoz of Quota and stuff here in CANADA.

    3. I know its hard to be away from family you gonna loose your precious moments of life but if you make gud buck it makes it worth as I know a lot of experienced owner otr taking home around 7-9 grands p/m:biggrin_2556:.

Thanks in advance for ur suggestions.

At 18cpm you will gross less than 2grand a month!! What dose the cpm go to after traning? If its less than .30 you need to find another company!!

Being in Canada, are you sure it's not 18cents per kilometer?

18 cents per mile is about half the industry average...and even 18 cents per kilo is still low...should be around 23-24 cents per kilometer.

The grass isn't greener on this side ... if you are doing well at what you do now, I recommend to keep doing it. Those 5-6 hours you sleep, aka home- not working time, will be reduced to 0 if you go OTR. If you do VERY well you may make 60,000 or so per year, and be home maybe 1 out of 7 days. Keep in mind your expenses to make that 60k are higher because food and everything is much more expensive on the road. If you want to "make your own thing" and make "big bucks" you have a HUGE risk, most people try it and fail. You will have business decisions that will effect your home life. What do you do when you find a high paying load over Christmas or other holidays/birthdays/etc? It's a tough world out here. Also you may be home average 1 out of 7 but that might also be ... 28 out then 4 off. I recommend you keep doing what you are doing, and possibly if you reduce your workload now by a bit things will be better for your situation.

A Dog has a better life. He's feed regularly and has a porch to crawl under. Every once in awhile somebody pets him.:biggrin_25522:

I would never do this for .18/mile. NO WAY. Not even as a first week rookie.
