Parked in the city of brotherly love tonight. Outside my "bedroom" window tonight: Citizen Bank Park, home of the Phillies, and Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles. One of the things I love about trucking is seeing all these places I wouldn't otherwise. Delivery at 0800, Sox in extra innings against the Oriels, life is good

We do. I haven't made a drop in the 5 boroughs yet myself, but it's a luck of the draw kind of thing. We have some drivers who live in city, so I believe they draw some of the loads for the purpose of getting home, though I have no official confirmation of that.

This is not a post I ever expected to make.
This past Friday, I was involved in a fatal crash with my rig. The other driver crossed the double yellow and hit me head-on. By the time I got to him, he was already gone.
In my former career, I saw many fatal crashes, but this is my first time being so directly involved. It is a whole new set of feelings.
Hirschbach has gone well beyond any expectation I could've had of how a company would approach such a situation. They put me up in the top hotel in the area to meet with insurance adjusters and authorities, as well as take refuge until I could get home.
The evening of the accident, the company VP called to check on me, and this morning at 0900 terminal time, the company president also reached out. I've been reassured multiple times that I will be paid for my downtime, and am under no pressure to return to the road immediately. They truly humble me, I am not accustomed to employers caring.
Having sung the praises, I now put out a question, who else has wrecked bad out here? Been in a fatal? And, how did you handle it?Last edited: Aug 13, 2013

I saw that accident on the news, not far from where I live. I couldn't believe how totaled your truck was, crazy.
The Challenger and danielfrench83 Thank this. -
Yeah, wasn't far from you at all fox. Company put me up at the hotel in Wilton, and Ron Morin over at Sugarloaf Emergency Vehicles (family friend) retrieved my clothing bag from the repair/scrap yard next door. Spent 3 very rough days in Wilton. Couldn't pick a better place to be stranded. Locals who knew my involvement in the crash were very supportive. Be proud, your neck of the woods exemplifies the best traits of Maine.
SnoFox, Weeble Kneeble and The Challenger Thank this.
