Help! Urgent repair question..

    Our 2013 peterbilt 587's governor was overridden by the previous driver and now our computer will not update, will not accept codes, will not enter logs or receive messages, it's basically useless. The screen is basically running itself, switching between things like its being remotely controlled, and will not stop. Nothing is functionig correctly except the truck itself. We have tried a hard reboot, to no avail. Is there any way we can fix this? Oh, and our heat isn't working either. Our safety is being pretty compromised.. This is our dream truck and we don't want to lose it from it being shut down in shop too long. What can we do!? Help! Does anyone know how long our down time will be if we have to replace the computer or if we can try and fix it ourselves or what??? We work for US Xpress.

    It's a company, you best let shop do the tinkering. Otherwise they'll blame you for the computer and they are not cheap.
    Electonic problems can take a lot of man hours to find sometimes.
    I think I would ask for another truck.

    Here's the thing. None of the US Xpress company codes work in the system and the mechanic knew it. The driver tek was working fine when we got the truck three days ago so we figured we'd run with it. Now it's acting normal again and freaking out every few minutes. We were supposed to repower a load here in Kentucky but now we aren't budging till safety gets us to a terminal.

    So, you can't run the truck if the electronic logs aren't working? what is wrong with running paper logs and using the cell phone to communicate with your travel agent?

    I'm assuming it your log system and not your Engine Control Module.

    when you say "computer" i a can only guess you are reffering to the ecm. an ecm is about 1800.00 dollors and it takes a couple hours to program it to your specific truck. hope that helps.

    Your parking because of the qalcom/ electronic logs but you didn't want to sit in a shop.
    You say the truck is running fine, but you don't want to repower a load because you can't use the computer.

    What has this new generation of trucking come to?

    I was a driver for 12 yrs and now I am a Tech for a ticketing agency. I have recently thought about starting a pc repair business for truckers around the St. Louis area. Of course I will be reasonable in price and always direct people in the right direction to get the best for their money. Any ideas on where the best TS to start this? Preferably on the IL side. Thought about Troy, IL. Let me know. -Thanks

    These new people dont have a clue about paper logs. Besides, usx wouldnt let them use paper anyways.
