Lol well I'll add my bit...NOT C.R. ENGLAND! This is coming from a guy who started with CDL school at CR England. They will lie to you and do their best to force you into a lease purchase and being a trainer.
In all honesty, I wish someone had told me this when I started... find a company that will put you through school for no cost except 1 year of service to them. After that year (paying your due's as we all had to) then move on up the ladder to a better company. Schneider is an OK company as a company driver, great imo as an owner op (don't even consider that move until 2 years driving... learn the industry etc). I'll have to agree with airforcetoo and say Western Express.. I've not heard much bad about them, not much good either, but nothing bad. Pretty much any company you work for starting off is going to take advantage of you by paying you around $0.25 cpm, when you could go to a company with 3 months of exp like Ozark starting off at $0.35 cpm (yeah, kinda hanky) but if you're indebted to that first company, suck it up for the first year. Much better than paying $2-6k for going to a CDL school on your own dime.
Oh, also don't go to FFE ^.^
Need advice on a good company to start off

I could be wrong but I believe after 1 year with melton you'll be up to 40cpm.
-
That's worth looking into... 40cpm is a nice payday as a company driver.

Everyone has mentioned not to go to CR England i think im going with my first choice they willing to give me a chance with my old felony conviction.
123456 Thanks this. -
Good Luck
Enjoy...... -
Why not FFE? It looks like my best option...for a company with just a 1yr contract for CDL school. I'm making the decision quick so any advice is good about FFE.

I never worked for them myself, but my dad did. He went through their school, with the agreement that upon graduating he would go through training, work for them 1 year, and then he was free to go wherever. The same agreement they're telling you. With him though, after passing through school top of his class, he went on the training truck. His trainer was on a dedicated run from Dallas, TX to Seattle, WA. He was with that trainer for almost 6 full weeks, during which the trainer gave him high marks and praise (he saw all of the paperwork before it was sent in). He never did anything wrong, did all was asked of him and then some. At the end of the 6 weeks his trainer offered him a position as a full time team. When my dad got back to Arkansas at the FFE terminal, he was informed that FFE chose not to hire him, was not going to pay him for his time with the trainer, and that he owed them $6,000 for the schooling. He's still paying on that. Luckily for him he got on with Schneider, did 3 months with them and now works as an OTR driver for Ozark making 0.36cpm with almost a steady 3k+ miles per week.
I'll NEVER recommend FFE to anyone after seeing first hand what they did to him. Hope that helps. =) -
They can offer you $1.00 a mile but if you aren't running a miles you aren't making a dime! I would be very weary about a company that offers more than $.32 a mile to start out with! There's a reason for it!

do you have a class A ALREADY?
