Trucking GPS, Which one to buy........

I've been using the Rand McNally 7 series for a while. Been pretty accurate. And darned handy for finding wal-marts to park at or that last minute out of the way truck stop when all the others are full. It does have the occasional routing issue where it will put you on a state highway that parallels the interstate for 30 miles because its 1 miles shorter or what it perceives as a more direct route. Overall it's pretty accurate. Especially if you do Wal-Mart DC loads. POIs in it will almost always take you right to the truck entrance. You do have to always triple check with a google aerial photo of the address unless you like side trips through the corn field.

 

I like my 510 particularly at the price of $199 now that the 520 is out

 

Um why no Garmin option? The Garmin is way better and been in the GPS game before Rand Mcnally even knew what a GPS was.

 

I just ordered the Magellan Commercial. I have used Magellan, Tom-Tom and garmin car units, the Magellan is by far the easiest to enter addresses, look up stuff, etc. I can simply enter the name of a company in some cases, and it will take me there!
Magellan made one for RV's and tested it for a while before they came out with the truck version. Most folks with the RV version seem to like it.

if you've been reading the forums. then why are you asking the same question that's already been asked a thousand times now.

i'd buy the copilot software for your phone. $3 and works the best. as for the all the other bells and whistles. there's an app for that. for free.

i use the pcmiler. which is the same as the copilot. so you can have a hand held unit or your phone.

The Rand Mcnally 510 is the best if you take the time & play with it know how to use it to max out all that it has to offer

If you are just starting out in trucking and you don't have that 6th sense you can easily Get Lost ( some times Not all the time ) They all have the same problems GPS Fatigue I call it
I have had them take me in circles and some time I wondered if the darn think was smoking some waki tebaki because it would pick routes that only a green horn would take and that will get you and your 75' foot john deere in big trouble on skinny Roads

so you have to know where you R where U R Going & U have to stop ASAP if you think you R Getting Rail Roaded Before it is too late &
Getting lost when it's dry is one thing
Getting Lost when it's raining , Snowing, is a whole Lota Mess
You Gota know your route from a to z
always use google maps to verify if the GPS is Lying confused or what have you...
