With my wheels not turning I don't earn a penny, I'd do anything to keep rolling (safely). Maybe your philosophy works for mega co.'s, however in the real world, anything I can do to keep the truck moving, save the company a few dollars keeps me employed.

not at you... but in general put your panties on, throw away the CB and stay in right lane @ 62.5 mph. World would be a better place. LOL

In my career I phoned a customer twice, the first time I got hold of a female that didn't know her north from her south and her east from her west. The other time, I got a hold of some Mexican dude and couldn't understand a single word he said.

Anyway I use Google Earth to look up my shippers and receivers, put a pushpin in the driver entranceway, access the properties for that pushpin, then copy and paste the driver entranceway GPS coordinates directly into Streets & Trips. Then I use Streets and Trips to provide me turn-by-turn guidance directly into the driver entranceways of my shippers and receivers. If that isn't astronomically far better than calling your customers, then nothing is.

Furthermore, if you ever have to make a delivery late at night in a fog so thick you can cut it with a knife and can't see the roads much less read the road signs, then that's when you will learn to appreciate GPS technology. Personally, like air conditioning, I wouldn't want to live without it. Technology is a tool and used properly it makes your life far better.

On e-logs, about 90 percent of drivers before using e-logs said the same exact thing, including me, but the convenience alone more than makes up for it. I, like most drivers that have made the transition already to e-logs also, am glad I did.

My electronics won't ever totally fail me because I keep backups of everything for my electronics, i.e., spare laptop and GPS receiver and backup everything to a portable hard drive. Nevertheless, I agree that in the beginning all new drivers should use a Motor Carrier Road Atlas only and learn to route and plan their trips the manual way like I did the first six months or so. If anything when you make the transition to GPS, you will be totally amazed at the time you will save to do other things like relax, surf the Internet, watch DVDs, etc.

Me thinks the point here--is--IF it works for you--then keep doing it--the rest is all just coffee counter BS when you get right down to it--But I gotta say--all I hear anymore is ol skool vs new skool--which I have stated many times is mostly nonsence also--since just about every generation b4 has had the same arguments....
Now it is just history repeating itself and usually for the same reasons--and Space Cowboy--not to single you out--but your last replay is a perfect example of why this keeps up--you quoted Superhaulers post--who btw--has done this TEN TIMES LONGER THAN YOU--he didn't put you down--he said how he does it and why--and you turn around and start talkin of scenarios that happened to you and why his way doesn't work? We have all been out at 3am on a foggy--or snowy or whatever night--huntin a stop---but your response and responses like it from both sides is what keeps this nonsence up......
So do things however they work for you--but please don't profess to KNOW your way is right....Becasue there is No right way---anything that gets you there safely and on time(legally)is right...
I have my way of doing things and it does not matter HOW I do it....But it works for me...and my sox have more miles than most of the folks arguing on here....

I do elogs until I dont feel like doing elogs, you can figure that one out on your own and gps is awesome for newer drivers, if I have been driving for 8 billion years yeah I might not like it since I know where everything is anyway but times are a changin. I will admit I remember things much clearer without the gps' help which believe it or not does fail often.

Hey, I don't mean to single out olhand here, but you know, it happens. Okay...let's test your reading comprehension skills olhand, exactly where did I say why his way doesn't work? You need to go back to the fourth grade dude. You have a very serious issue with reading comprehension. Moreover, you did mean to single me out, so quit lying. Finally, I could care less what you think in any event! And admit it, you hate new technology and learning new things.

It kind of depends on the GPS solution you use and whether you know how to use it properly. Most people don't.

All the gadgets and such are just lights and wires if ya not using your noggin as well. This whole argument stems from the stupid manouvers we see drivers pulling everyday . Then followed by the lame excuse of "my gps, phone, computer, talking robot, photon laser tracking space age super-dooper thingamajig that I was relying on instead of my brain caused me to screw up royally!!".
Aint got nothing to do with old skool or new skool ( it's cooler when spelt with a k) just got to do with people blindly following bad directions . Following bad gps directions is no different to following bad phone directions. Only difference is the method in which you got the directions. I've had good and bad of both gps and phone directions. Maps eventually become outdated, gos needs constant updating or it becomes obselete as well. Road construction will screw up the best directions from any source real quick!
