Hazleton PA... apparently for awhile. Got sent a real dog of a load... Excel Caseready to Wintersville OH. That's an overnight, that's never ready to hook onto until the last minute. This one would mean sitting around all day tomorrow, and running overnight for an early Monday morning delivery. No hours left for Monday, meaning whatever this one brings is it for the week. Barely enough in it to cover the fixed costs, let alone fuel (non-turnpike routing) or tolls on the turnpike.
No thanks. I'll wait for Monday to roll around, thank-you. -
I always send that one back to em no matter what day it is.

Totally agree... there's just not enough money in it to make it worthwhile. That one should be company-only.

How hard will prime get on a driver if they don't get a fuel bonus? really interested in going to them cause I love the equipment and the pay scale...but also not sure I wanna go to a mega carrier again... how well are drivers treated by your dm's?
-
You have to toe the line on the minimum fuel economy requirement... anything better get's you some weekly bonus money as an incentive to do better. It's not all that hard... you just can't drive it like you stole it is all. As far as DMs (we call 'em Fleet Managers) are concerned, I have had good professional relationships with every one I've been associated with. We're on a first-name basis with our primary guys, and the weekend/night folks generally are very good as well. No micromanaging (unless you need it,) no pushing to continue in adverse/unsafe conditions.
...that's despite my previous little rant. BTW, I told 'em "NO," and I got no guff for that. The Challenger and Rugerfan Thank this. -
that's good to hear... the company I currently drive for is nice like that as well... I only get a call or a message from my DM when there is new load info or I empty out somewhere or there is something really important... sometimes I go 3-4 days without talking to them and its very nice... so when you say toe the line are you saying that they are really strict on it? what is the minimum you can get?

I'd hesitate to guess at this point, since I've been on the lease side for the last three years. 7.5 mpg is what I recall. All of our trucks are capable of meeting it, and they will work on them in the shop if you are having problems meeting it. My '09 Cascadia is running over 7.8 mpg over the last 30-days, and in the 8's the last couple of weeks, but I don't have to worry about that. They do allow for bad weather, and winter conditions. Someone who does well during the good weather months can certainly turn in some weeks in the 6's during the winter without worrying about it.Rugerfan Thanks this.
