I'm applied to the glass div. The previous employer check shouldn't take long because I've been with the same company for about 8 years. I've been checking on the website daily to see if things have moved forward yet. The recruiter said to call Tuesday if I don't hear anything from Human Resources. I'm definitely need to work on the patience. I'm just excited about getting started. I told them not to contact my place of employment until I hear from them that all of the other formalities and procedures are done. I don't want to tip off my current employer any sooner than I have to. Hush hush!! I've been reading your thread and the razors edge thread. I sure am glad to hear all of the positive feedback on Maverick and I am also glad to be able to get an idea what trucking and hauling glass is about. I've had my CDL for about 7 years and I've never had the opportunity to use it. I've wanted to drive truck since I was a kid and now I have the opportunity and the support of my wife and family. The job I'm at now isn't paying nearly enough and it's about as boring as can be. Benefits are getting worse and more expensive every year and our raises aren't near enough to keep up with inflation. My folks are in CA. I have family in TN, ME, ID, and MN. With money being tight I haven't seen my family for a long time and I'm hoping that it might be possible to meet up with them in their neck of the woods if I get a load running near them. Thank you for your response and hopefully I'll run into you some day.

I just wanted to let you know that they absolutely will not contact your current employer until the last second. They called and let me know that they had everything else and just wanted my OK to contact my current employer when I was applying. They understand how some companies will try to screw you over when they find out you are trying to quit and will do everything they can to make the transition easier on you.

Good luck and hopefully you'll be with us soon.

To any Maverick drivers that may be able to give me some advice: Lately I have been so pumped up and excited to get the chance to drive for Maverick and to get an invitation to training. But now I am feeling very discouraged and I feel like the wind was let out of my sails. I was awaiting the phone call from the Human Resources dept about a couple of medications that I take. The one they said is ok with the doctors note but the other they said is not allowed by the dot. I have a meeting with my doctor on wed and I am going to ask him to get me off the one medication asap. And the other one that is ok I will get a note stating as to why I am taking it and that it will not affect my ability to drive safely. Also in the past 3 or 4 months I took one or two of my wife's percosets which she had for her colitis pains that she gets once in a while. The reason I took them on those two occasions was because I had a couple of terrible stress headaches that I couldn't get rid of. I wasn't even thinking about driving when I took them a while back, but now I am kicking myself. From now on if I get the occasional headache like that I will tough it out or take normal over the counter asprin or Tylenol. I informed the HR girl of all of this info because I believe in being honest and straight forward and I didn't want to have any doubts in my mind about passing the test once I get out there. I asked Human Resources if these facts would disqualify me from ever being employed with Maverick and she wouldn't give me an answer yes or no. I have been wanting to drive truck since I was a kid and I still want the chance if possible. I will never take my wife's medicine again and I will get completely off of the other prescription. I was just wondering if any of you guys could give me any advice or encouragement on this topic?? I also just want to let you guys know that I am a Christian and I have a wife and kids that support my career change and I believe that it is Gods plan for my life to drive truck. I just want to put it all out there for help with my dilemma. I am willing to do anything to get the opportunity to get a shot with Maverick. If Maverick will still give me a shot, I plan on waiting 90 days and getting a hair follicle test through my own doctor before I go. I will even get a copy of it faxed to Maveick first if they want to see it. I would appreciate any advice or input on all of this?

It's not the end of the world and there are other companies out there in case things don't work out for you with Maverick. Really don't know what to tell you other than the obvious you already put out there for all to read. God works in mysterious ways. You pray, what's he telling you?

Like you, I too am waiting on an orientation date, so I have no inside information to give you. To begin, kudos for being up front with HR, you're a good man for fessing up. That being said, you've gotta appreciate that you've given HR a real hard way to go by admitting the use of a controlled substance, a narcotic no less, without a prescription. In today's litigious society where lawsuits are more common than common sense, if you get into a personal injury accident, you can almost hear the injured party's lawyer asking "the question." The good news is that if the pee/follicle tests come back clean, you're probably golden. (They generally cover 90-days, and you know what you did when you did it.)

For what it's worth, you have my personal admiration, but if I owned the final decision, it would come down to the reaction of my insurance carrier. If it meant a rate increase where I'd have to pay more of my personnel budget to insurance carriers instead of my drivers, I'd cut you loose. Like I said, I admire your integrity, but doing the right thing has consequences and comes at a cost. (If it didn't, hell, everyone would do it.)

However this turns out, good luck and godspeed.

Thank you for the insight on this! I appreciate it. Maybe it's Gods way of saying wait a little longer. I'm not giving up, that's for sure.
