The military is going through major dowsizing right now. Some guys couldn't stay even if they wanted to. My brother in law was asked to leave this year after 20 years. If your MOS is top heavy you're out.

My 2 cents....
My dad was a driver w/Kroger, then ETMF till ABF took them over. GREAT union jobs with great money. I had it all as a kid, if I seen it Mom would buy it for me. Always had the hottest toys and one of the first 10 speeds in my town. But all that money could not buy me a Daddy. He was always gone or sleeping getting ready to leave again. Instead of teaching me to play baseball, they sent me to ball camp to learn. Dad came to one football game when I was in High School. I am now 50 and Dad is healthy at 74, we have no relationship. I don't hate him, but I just don't know him. And of course with Dad being gone so much, Mom found her own things to do and they divorced.
If you do go into trucking..... CHILD SUPPORT... She will most likely get 20% of your check before you ever see any money. She will get first dib's on any money you have saved, on any car you have. The State Child Support folks will get a few hundred bucks out of you each year so they have the money to keep track of you. You will lose the tax benefits of being married with children. Your kid will just be a picture on the dash. You will miss the first day of school tears. You will miss kissing Boo-Boo's. Trick or Treating will not even be a thought for you. When you do go to your kids wedding, you will feel like a stranger and feel awful that you don't even have a real clue who this young person is that shares your last name.
And just plain ### being rude, but it based on 50 yrs of life... There is already ya young buck or two stiffing around a young wife you is left at home while you are doing your duty overseas. And she is not going for it as she is HAPPY with you. Let her be pissy that you took a job that she told you not to take... She will be chasing them young bucks and be getting her lovin' from someplace else. -
I would say throw yourself wholeheartedly into researching this career. My wife said that she has never been more supportive of me pursuing this career since I've been the one to do all the research about different options for my career and the implications for my family. Good luck to you!

She has already dealt with you being away in the military so she is not going to deal with you being on the road especially with her dad having been a trucker, plus she is young with a kid at home! unless you can get a local job , you might as well get the divorce papers if you go on the road !

Look what all the guys that have did both say. I have and trucking is no life for a young couple! Do your time get out reap the benifits then if you want to truck do it..At least in the service when they tell you some BS they look you in the face in trucking you are going to get a lot more BS and it is gonna be over the phone..
