While Pete makes VERY GOOD POINTS--I really do not think the new rules come from driver stupidity(although there is plenty of that)
I still contend it is a knee jerk reaction by the gov't to heavy pressure from bery well funded lobbying groups--and written by people who cant drive more than 1/2 to work without falling asleep!
Oh and don't forget one or two of those lobbying groups are from inside this industry--who have been desperately trying to level the playing field to make up for thier poor service and low rates!
Just my $.02airforcetoo, Lone Ranger 13, chalupa and 1 other person Thank this. -
as stupid as the government is even they don't implement laws
that didn't at least start with necessity
their laws never suit the intended purpose so they make another law
we wouldn't have to have headsets with our cell phones if
drivers had enough common sense of when not to use them
someday we wont be allowed cell phones because of drivers
still ignoring this and driving down mont
eagle in the rain holding their phones
look around we cause our own demise as a groupchalupa and airforcetoo Thank this. -
YKnow Pete just when i am about to comment in another thread--That it is quite possible it is even scarier inside YOUR head then in my own(which is a terrifying place--trust me)
You come along with a rather well thought out and rational argument----Hmmmm -
Of course my opinion about the new HOS is that it's nothing short of a full trash can full of stinking rotting garbage, but I'll wait to see how it affects the way I run before I form an experienced opinion about it. My company is run such a way that a 34hr restart on the weekend works perfectly with their load planning. My first year with them resulted in approx 139K miles and approx $38K. Firstly, the pay is low for the miles I've run(which is depressing). Secondly, with the new rules, I doubt I'll see 139K miles unless I run myself into the grave doing it. Suffice to say, I won't be running like that any more...even though it'll result in a huge pay decrease. ...and of course I'm thinking about saying adios to the trucking industry, but that's a common reaction to news like this. Can't say what I'll do. hmmm Job security? What's that feel like?

During the HOS listening sessions, I recall drivers requesting more flexibility on taking breaks. Because with the 14 hour rule , there wasn't much time to take breaks. So what did we get ? A required 30 minute break .
Only the driver knows what would be the ideal time for him to take a break.
Let the driver have more control over how he uses his time.
And build many large parking lots along our highways so a driver can get off the road and park when he needs to .Rocks, snowblind and cowboy_tech Thank this. -
LOL @ building parking lots when they are closing down rest area's and even trying to block you off from using the shoulder of the rest area's.

chalupa Thanks this.
