an apu can heat and cool your truck along with provide power, its kinda like a generator if you want to think of it that way. They can cost upwards of $10k and Swift does not provide these on the trucks.
I saw one system that seemed decent, it ran off of propane instead of diesel and supposed to be much more efficient saving $2k a year in fuel cost, saw one where it was $250 a month for 36 months, I might look into them once I have my own truck in the future. -
I hear that Inverters are not allowed? Is that true and if so how strict is that policy?

no hard wire inverters, you can use a plug in inverter. I use a 410 watt to run my cpap and laptop
If you have sleep apnea they will install an inverter but its a pain to get it done, I tried to get it done last week and they wanted me to take a few days off to go get a letter from my doctor stating I need my machine out on the road...like wtf idiots of course I need it, if I need it at home then what makes you think I dont in the truck? So i said screw the process I will use a plug in and just get on the road.
If your in an owner op truck then you can install whatever you feel like, I hope I get to go drive for my mentor I had, he called me up yesterday and said the plans are still a go, he is just waiting for his house to close escrow next month and the end of July or early August he wants a new truck. -
lol plug in inverter so if i take my 1200 watt inverter and hook up a plug in that is acceptable? a plug in is easy to hook up to them have one around my house some where.

I went solo about two months ago, and I'm on my third truck so far. I had a 2006 Volvo first with 530k miles that was in surprisingly good condition, and I had no problems at all with that truck. It popped up on the trade in list, so I went to Greer and got a 2009 Prostar that had a bunch of issues. It was in the shop for the majority of the first week I had it with various problems. The qualcomm had issues the entire time I had it (constantly turning off and on/locking up/etc.), and the egr cooler blew up on it a couple of weeks ago. After the egr cooler blew up, I got sent to pick up my current truck which is a 2013 KW T660. I haven't had any problems with this truck so far, and it's a comfortable ride, but the turning radius on it does leave a little to be desired. Overall, I'm happy with it though.

yeah I think the volvo has a better turning radius in my own opinion but I have only drove a couple freights and volvos.
back on the inverter subject, if your talking about doing any wiring to the truck at all then its a no go, you will get in trouble if caught, if you go to get the truck serviced I was also told the mechanics will take it from the truck since its not allowed. As for wiring the 1200 to a cig plug then that wont be worth your trouble, a cig plug puts out like 180 watts so you will never use the max potential. -
I just want to be able to charge my laptop. they have 12v dc chargers for laptops but mine needs 16v, so i need an inverter. I was just planning on getting one that just plugs into the cig. outlet. Im assuming having one of those would not be a big issue right?
