This is a very good breakdown of how this business really works ,according to how you and your truck are managed
SHC Thanks this. -
$3400 sounds about right to me. Especially when you factor in the dead head all the way back to DFW. There is no freight at all between Denver and DFW. Probably the biggest black hole in all the land.

Here's a great paying ld.
Dallas to Oklahoma city. Hauling an exc. right at 48000 plus wide and here's the big pay. 850.00
I asked the lady do you know what the permit costs are.
She replied, I don't even want to hear it, I've had a rough day.
Well needless to say I'm not taking that cheap ld...SHC Thanks this. -
In that situation, what I will do is tell the broker that I'll take his load IF he finds me another one (or two or three) that will get me back to Dallas for the same per-mile rate on the round trip. You find out pretty quickly whether they really need the load moved or if they're just looking for a sucker to bite on their rate. And you don't alienate them with an offer that they consider ridiculous.

Yes your right and don't think it wasn't in the back of my head just to DH home I've been gone for three months but I did need the extra revenue to pay for my beer when I get home.....With DH I do my best to do as little DH as possible but if I find a good paying load that might take a 600+ mile DH to get to ill take a look and see if theirs somthing I can take going that direction I'm going their anyways might as will have somthing on my trailer I little of something is better than a whole lot of nothingSHC Thanks this.

how about a D6 from IL to AZ for less than $3.00 a mile including permits - only around $700SHC Thanks this.

I just dead headed 550 miles from rapid city to iowa...only thing within 100 miles of rapid city was $1.25 going any where and at least two dozen empty open decks at the hook camping out waiting for that golden nugget. f-that bounce 550 and score $3 a mile legal to salt lake.

Id have took it. your not over gross on a D6 are you....I thought they where like 40k?. -
Less than $3 mile on an oversize load??? You have got to be out of your mind if you take that!!!
