What's your rate?
I remember a chief who hated his job - absolutely hated it - but would stay late every day because he hated his home live more. This is a very real possibility in trucking as well.x#1 Thanks this. -

Since when does the woman have a choice in this matter? This is why I will never, ever marry. I will not and cannot ever live my life worrying if my spouse will "allow" me to do this or that. I'm just too independent of a person.

How old are you? I used to say the same thing...until at age 34 the "one" came into my life. Been married 21 years now.

Yes... .listen to your wife! Between your deployment and truck driving you are never going to see your family! Don't make the same mistake I did! You are never, ever going to get that time back. You only get one shot at life and being there for your kid!
Not including your deployment, driving over the road is going to consist of you being gone from home for 6-8 weeks at a time with 2-3 days off in between. This means missing your kid grow up, playing sports, school events, birthdays, holidays, funerals, doctor appts. etc... Your kids first words surely won't be "daddy"!
Its not worth it. For the amount of pay you are going to make you could have two mediocre jobs at home and be home every night to see your family.
Don't waste valuable time and money that could be going toward your family to invest in school and training. Don't go into this with the plans of landing a local gig. The chances of doing so are remote. There's a long line of experienced drivers trying to get off the road and drive locally because they miss their families. These drivers are going to have priority over an inexperienced driver looking for a job. Besides that there are too many other jobs out there in which you could attend a technical college or school for a couple of months and make the same amount of money or most likely more.
If you are dying to drive a truck do it once your kid grows up and your wife is tired of you! Who knows, maybe by then your wife will want to do it with you and you can drive team. Then it will be worth it!
Take my advice, don't make the same mistake I did...
Thank you for your service to our country!ONESHOT1997 Thanks this.
