If you have to lease or be an O/O to train, you may MAKE 8 to 10k a month. You'll be lucky to clear 3k.

What do u mean clear 3k? If u make 10k a month, does expenses really cost u 7k? I don't think truck payments and fuel are that expensive, right? Otherwise my trainer won't be driving a brand new Mercedes, and he's only in his late 20s.

yes, the expenses are THAT HIGH.

fuel is your biggest expense. then you have close to 1000 in weekly expenses to the company.

after all is said and done. your left with only 1000, maybe 2000.

When I had a truck 3k a month was just the truck payment and insurance combined. Add in an average of 600 a day in fuel and you can see it gets expensive. Don't forget all the other things like taxes, maintenance and oh crap money you need to set aside while running. There is a lot more to driving a truck than just driving the truck.

Be a company driver for awhile and run all your paperwork asif you are an o/o. That will give you time to learn the industry and see if you would actually make more owning the truck. Lease's will always be there, you can get one later if you really want to do that to yourself.

And late 20's driving a Mercedes doesn't mean anything. On active duty I saw privates who drove BMW's and Mercedes. Where they rich? Hell no, they were, however, willing to spend everything they made in a month on a car.

all you newbies with $$$$ in your eyes head for North Dakota and Texas.... Keeps you out of the steady work, long term, and keeps the rate cutting mega carriers away...

As for the orignal post, I don't believe that the trainers at a starter company are taking home 10K a month, which is $120,000 a year. I worked for a starter company, and know the smoke they blow up the newbies dresses, and they ALL quote Gross revenue, before any expenses. And Newbies don't realize that fuel will cost them $300 to $400 a day.

Fuel alone will run $6000 to $8000 a month if you run hard. Trust me I know. I write the checks.

I could never be a trainer. You have to let the newbie drive your truck while you're sleeping to keep those wheels running 24hrs in order to make any money, and that means sleeping while he's driving. Hell, my first trainer flipped our truck over out on I40 just east of Amarillo my second week out. I went home for a few days and then went out with a new trainer, but vowed I'd never sleep while someone else drove if I didn't absolutely have to, lol.
