not really sure what part of the forum this question goes in but here goes..i'm wanting to know some opinions on NEW YORK CITY deliveries, the company i'm going to work for say they go there some maybe once a month sometimes less, i have never had to deliver in the city or any burroghs around it..if and when that time comes what is there to expect? is it as bad as some people say it is? i like alot of other people have heard bad stories about it, on the other hand i've also heard it's not as bad as people say it is...so i would like to ask for opinions, advice, or maybe some stories people would like to share about their trip there......![]()

I would hope that they would not send a green driver in there.
-
I never lost any thing in NYC to go look for.
-

-
main thing: dont be in a hurry
you arnt getting anywhere fast
good directions are a huge help
go in with a good attiude , dont go in being mad, cause yourll blow a gasket by the time you get in the city
and 48fts in the city -
Well I consider all cites about the same..
What you will notice in NY besides the traffic...
1.Very tight streets... Make a wrong turn or miss a turn it may be over an hour before you get back to that spot...
2. Bridges
The height posted on bridges are very messed up.. example you will see a sign that says 12.8 but you can fit a 13.6 under it.. I have been told by some local drivers that the 12.8 is when a subway train is going over it..
That sucks becuase at times you can't tell if there is one going over it or not...
Others are posted wrong just becuase NY is to cheap to replace them..
Bridge tolls are just ridiculous.... I hope you have EZpass..
3. Tolls well I just touched on that but it can get expensive...
4. CB crazies
Well you get this about everywhere you go but in NY you have several morons sitting at home pushing a few 1000 watts.. They are so dang annoying at times... You been there you know what I mean..
One name everybody knows is Space Cowboy..
Is it as bad? Ah not really in my opinion.. I personally have no issues go9ing anywhere in the US or Canada... Mexico? no thank you I like my life and don't want to risk it if you know what am saying...
Everybody says people in NY are jerks.. I have never had a issue at a shipper or receive in NY.. Sure they all have attitudes just about but I think that is just thier culture... Just act like they are your friend and you will get in and out.... -
what about the bad stuff...i always hear about people getting robbed or messed with by all the bad people over there..not being able to stop at red lights etc....or is that part not as bad as they say it is.......

New York isn't quite a crime ridden as it used to be.
The city isn't bad... well not if you go in with a 20 foot trailer like thay ran when all those allies and docks were built!!! -
NYC isn't that bad if you are used to it.
It can be quite intimidating for the first timer though.
Take your time, make sure you have directions, make sure you follow them.
You'll notice the bridge height signs are in 2 colors (if you pay attention)
White signs are "safe" indicators for periods of snow. 12'6" white sign equals 13'6" clearance on clean streets.
If the sign is yellow (generally 13'6" or more) it's safe year round...MAYBE !
You have to be careful of arched bridges, watch for them. They may be 15 foot down the center, and 12 foot on the curb lane.
I wouldn't spend the night in ANY burrough. I've actually been asked to leave by the police in some areas, then return in day time.
While there is a length restriction (48 ft), it is rarely enforced. Usually it happens when you have an accident.
Tolls are HIGH...really high. You'll need EZPass or lots of cash. You can cut some expenses by going in the bottom, and coming out the top. -
well i seem to be learning or at least hearing some things..lol yep i have been very lucky so far that in my over four years of driving over the road i have yet had to deal with new york city....i have been in jersey many times and have seen across the bridge...actually i have one time only crossed the george w bridge in the middle of the night and drove thru going to del in mass. somewhere years ago.....that's as close as i have been to nyc....really not looking forward to it, but knowing what to expect might be somewhat helpful..i have always heard horror stories about robbery stuff and lots of crime for truckers delivering there in any of that area.....
