NOOOO!!!! Those 12v plugs in the trucks usually have a 10 amp fuse. 10 amps X 12 volts = 120 watts. I ran a 200 watter in my truck and it did fine except the plug melted when used for too long. Really, anything bigger than 400 watts should be hard wired; otherwise, you're asking for a fire.
My first truck was junk! Uncertain of the year, but it was a run down Freightliner. Had ugly blue interior, very plain. It was a cold morning and as I was loading up the truck, it decided to bleed power steering fluid all over the ground. Supposedly, I was taking it to Phoenix (or Memphis) to get a new truck. They pulled that one and gave me a newer (2x,xxx miles) International team truck. Talk about nice! Plenty of room to hold all my stuff. Then after about a month, they took that and gave me a Volvo with about the same # of miles. AS for engines, I like Cummings. They sound good and have plenty of power. I drove a truck which had a Detroit and it was loud and underpowered. I think it was on a day cab.
Anyhoot, my pick for company truck are Volvo's and Internationals.

The plug for the actual cigarette lighter has a bigger fuse, either 15 or 20 amps, the rest were meant to carry a smaller load.

I have been running my 150 watt inverter in my truck now for 2 years. Use it just for my laptop, and not one problem. My 1500 hardwire invertor can not run my laptop, but the 150 watt can.
inkeper Thanks this. -
why cant your 1500 run the laptop?

Hi. Here are the brand new trucks you can get..... volvo 780, ken t660 aero or studio, t700, t680, prostar, cascadia. The used trucks depend on what they have available. This is for lease pur. For company trucks it is the same but most are cascadias, vol 670, and prostars. They turn them over between 450-550k.

All of the 400W inverters I know of, when plugged in to a 12V socket, will only provide 150W of power.
They need to be connected directly to the battery to produce the full 400W.
And this is stated in the documentation that comes with those units. Sometimes even on the outside packaging. -
