With zink , the dad passed and the son took over and changed a few things . It's hard to get a raise so the "old" guys are mad cause the new guys make as much as they do coming right off the street .
Company moral is non existent around there . In my short time there , I seen four drivers and a few helpers leave . They used to not hire without an A license , they've changed that cause they can't keep folks .
With a B license your gonna be a keg man . If your a "big" guy or decent size , you're gonna be a keg man instead of running a 20 bay truck .
A full keg weighs 160 lbs and they'll load you up with them and expect you to deliver them two at a time in the bars in Broad Ripple . Those bars are really old and the stairs are really small and you will be delivering up and down stairs , it's a good way to get hurt fast .
As the driver , if you wind up miss-counting or your helper does , it comes out of your pay no matter who's fault it was .
Driving the semi's are a "promotion" around there since they deliver full skids to the bigger stores , it's less physical work but you wouldn't be doing that anytime soon so no need to even think about it .
With Soderal , like I said I don't know anything first hand so the info is worth what you paid for it .
They advertise good wages but I hear you won't see them unless your willing to bend the rules and if your not willing to play their games you won't get the hours .
Also look at their equipment , old busted single axle Macs and busted trailers , if they don't give a #### about their equipment they sure as hell don't give a #### about you .cellopudding Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info, 5.56. I'll take it under advisement for sure. My job search is only just beginning so hopefully I'll be able to find something that "fits" for me. Who are you working for now?

I'm working for a small flooring company now driving a box truck . I'm trying to get on at OD though .
I've never heard anything but good from their drivers . Good luck with whatever you choose .cellopudding Thanks this. -
Well, less than a week before I start classes! Today I went to the BMV to take some endorsement tests. Took hazmat, doubles/triples, tanker, and passenger. Passed all but the passenger test, so I'll try again with that tomorrow.
Question to some more experienced folk reading this... should I start applying now for a company like Old Dominion, or should I wait until I actually have my CDL in hand? -
My thoughts - You will rest easier at night if you have been pre-approved for employment with a company. I know I do as I am about to start the Celadon school on the 8th. Peace!cellopudding Thanks this.

Yeah, I've been searching for a good job ever since I started the process.

the trick is being connected. Any experience in a truck counts. All U need is a pass on a drive test. Don't go to a test and expect simpathy. Go in hard charging!
Tell the test person you can drive, then prove your worth. Be confident in your skill. I had experience but it did not count after 2010... 1 year in 3 experience.
If needed work for the man till u get what u seek!
trust me I did

Well, today was the 1st day! I thought it went well. We have 4 students in the class. With a class this size, we'll all receive 8 hours of individual driving instruction a week. Today we were introduced to the pre-trip inspection, as well as the history of the profession and orientation. All of us have our permits and our physicals (pre-requisite before school began), so we are able to jump right into instruction. We also learned about CSA scores today, and how to look them up on the SafeStat website. Tomorrow, we'll work some more on the pre-trip, and start learning about the Smith System.

So how's it going so far? Still mostly classroom? Since you did your permits before school, you probably don't need a lot of classroom time, do you?
