To a degree your income will depend on how often you take home time.....because they will have to find backhauls that will take you as close as possible. My husband comes home every 2 to 3 weeks, the first week out is great the last week trying to get him close to home is usually less miles. Your miles will be a little low when you first get into a truck, they will build up with time if you prove yourself to be a runner.

Great thanks to all who replied! I really appreciate kirk, geo, and HQ for good sound advice. I intend to work my *** off to prove myself and get as many miles as I can. Not planning on a whole lot of home time, probably won't be looking to come home to NC much more than once a month or so, at least to start, and except for major family events, I can be very flexible as far as timing on those home days. Don't have a wife to come home to, just grown kids and one beautiful granddaughter!
kirk and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
IF you have a good driver manager & don't take home time a lot you be alright.

I met a transam driver yesterday.I asked him how he likes transam,I hate it he says.Only reason is because hes new.He needed help, the king pin overshot the fifthwheel.Transam puts too much grease on the fifthwheel.I ruined a good pair of my raggedity old pair of jeans, lol.

Thanks pattyj for helping the TransAm driver out. They do have a tendency to throw new drivers into the fire and let them figure it out on their own! It makes an impression and they do learn and remember it ....with a little help from good samaritans.

Ya he said they sent him out before he was ready.I think he said this was his first load.I told him to hang in there it'll get easier.
bwaync and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
Another bit of advise from a driver's wife for the new guys .....always...always... scale your load...even on a swap. That has saved my husband many, many times. If you are a company driver TransAm pays for you to scale it.

pattyj, good thing you had that old ratty pair of jeans! lol Yeah, 11 days with a trainer doesn't seem like much time to know what you're doing, to me. But then, having someone holding your hand doesn't teach you as well or as quickly as figuring it out yourself! C'mon, Wednesday, hurry up and get here! Just wish I wasn't looking at a 30-hour ride on the Grey Dog to get there.....

Good luck if you are staying at the Holiday Inn. The manager there is far from professional, and I don't think they really want drivers staying there, but Trans Am pays them well so they don't say anything to them. I also got food poisoning in the restaurant there as well. So just a heads up. and no Im not a disgruntled driver either. LOL

WOW!!!!!!!!!!30 hrs.Now that's gonna suck.Transam probably is a good company but is'nt their companies a tad bit closer?
